ENDURANCE --GAITED-- PASO SADDLE!
Up for your consideration is a gorgeous hand built MESACE saddle made for Paso Finos (or other like built gaited horses) for trail or endurance riding. It has a unique serial number which is: 305190. The original leathers (included) also feature a serial number.
First of all you will note that it is in fabulous condition! It has a super deep and comfy seat. The seat measures 16.5” from the front to the back, as well as when it is measured like an English saddle (button to center of seat). I am not sure if this type of saddle is measured that way as the seat is VERY DEEP (yes, I am repeating myself). If you know of a different way to measure these Mesace Saddles please let me know! The leather is black. J
Beyond the comfortable deep padded seat you will see that this saddle is styled most like English type saddles, only with a deeper seat and shorter flaps. It has several D-rings all around it for your equipment, and all the hardware on the saddle is brass. There is also a brass crupper ring in the back. The stirrup hangers are placed like those found on other similar gaited or plantation type saddles. (There is a D-ring hanger coming off the tree instead of the spring latch you see on English saddles).
The rigging on these saddles is kind of funky. You see there are two billets on either side. The billets are in superb condition and actually don’t look like they have been used. They are also wider than English saddle billets, so the only English girths that will work with them are the ones with the wider roller type buckles. Australian girths (the ones designed to be used with double billeted saddles) work the best as the buckles are larger on them.
Between the two billets you will notice there is a round cinch ring which can be used with a standard western set up (off billet, tie strap, and cincha) if you wanted to, but is actually it is supposed to serve more like an over girth and used in conjunction with the regular girth to provide more stability on rough terrain, and provide the rider the extra security offered by an over girth system. There is a cincha included, also made by Mesace. I will keep my eyes open to see if I can find an English or Australian style girth to fit the billets on this saddle, and although I am making no promises, if I do find one and it fits I will included it with the saddle.
The leathers have been replaced and are brand new, soft and supple black leather. I will also include the original leathers (noted above) although I would not use them for safety sake. I have also taken it upon myself to add a gorgeous set of lightweight composite stirrups with ‘grippy’ black rubber pads in them. They are awesome and super light weight. In fact the saddle with the leathers and irons on it weighs in around 14 lbs or so (maybe a bit less-I was having a hard time balancing it on my scale)!
When I use my template on it, it shows as having a Medium Bar angle…which equates to 90°….same as Quarter Horse or Semi-Quarter Horse Bars.
Since it was built for a naturally gaited breed (Paso Fino horses) it should work equally as well with other gaited horses or mules taking the same size saddle.
To find out if this saddle will fit your horse you can use the same template I used by going here:
Download the templates provided and put them together.
You can use this template(s) to check it on a saddle you know fits your horse, or you can use it on your horse. (This works best if you print or tape it to cardstock or a heavier paper/cardboard). If you use this on your horse please keep in mind you are not placing the template all the way onto your horses wither area….you are just using it to check the bar angle (flat parts). The middle rounded part is where the gullet is. You can also use a wither tracing to check if the saddle will fit your horse! (Instructions online). Remember the area on the underside of this saddle is heavily padded for your horse with its stuffed panels.
As I always do, I have gone over this saddle with a fine toothed comb while I soaped, oiled, and treated it with Saddle Butter (leather conditioner). My description includes everything I have found with this saddle and should answer all your questions. If not, please feel free to email me any other questions you might have. I have described it to the best of my ability….but am only human, so once again please ask questions prior to bidding.

I have included photos of the entire saddle...all the way around. Please note: MY PAD, and my SADDLE STAND are NOT INCLUDED!!! If there are photographs that you would like to see (of a particular area) please email me. There are plenty of cheap saddles available for sale anymore. You can look at the close-up photos of the leather and easily tell the difference between real leather and that cheap card-boardy type of leather found on many imports. This saddle is not one of those cardboard saddles.
I hope I have answered any questions you might have. If I have failed to list something that you would like to know, please feel free to email me. I reserve the right to list and sell saddle locally, so if you want it, bid on it!
Shipping price is for lower 48 states and always INCLUDES REPLACEMENT INSURANCE! I have had things lost in the mail...so I will always make sure you are covered in case anything happens. Remember that shipping insurance is costly and is based upon the final value of the auction. If you are International please email me with your postal code BEFORE BIDDING so I can look up shipping for you.
If you peruse my other auctions I give you the standard speech regarding never again shipping things to Spain. Don't believe me? Look at my feedback. It was perfect. Then against my better judgment (I knew the guy had problems communicating in English), I went ahead and shipped to him. He was very angry when he had to pay import duties to his country. He insisted that it was my responsibility to pay it. I even offered to take the perfect item back. In response he marred my 100% record! I was angry at first, now I find myself amused. Anyway I am going to hold fast on this. No shipping to Spain...or anywhere else that a language barrier prevents communication. I am not responsible for import duties, so if you are in another country and want this beautiful saddle please find out if you are going to be charged those fees first. If you email me your postal code I will be happy to look up International shipping for you. If you live in the lower 48 states the shipping is a flat rate...and I will cover the cost of packing materials, box, and insurance.
Please visit my other auctions. I am cleaning up stuff that doesn't get used, so have some unusual items I will be listing!
Generally shipping to Canada is going to run right in the neighborhood of 90.00-100.00 for this size/weight of saddle. From past experience it will cost between 100.00 and 125.00 to ship it to the U.K., Ireland, and most EU locations. If you are in a location other than that (or you don’t understand the wording in this auction –Spain-) I am afraid I will not be able to ship it to you.
Local pickup is always free.
PLEASE NOTE: If you have no intention of following through on your high bid, please do not waste my time or the time of fellow bidders. This is not a game, so please don’t treat it as though it is. Bidding on this auction is started low and will sell to the highest bidder, don’t lose out on this incredibly rare and versatile saddle-bid now. Good Luck!

Hey....I mentioned in the body of the description that the billets on this saddle are wider than English billets. It therefore needs a girth with wide buckles...like an Australian girth. I also mentioned that if I could find one before the end of the auction that I would include it.
I FOUND ONE!!! It is a nice, clean, newer wide buckled girth. It will be included in the box for the high bidder. Its not black...but its padded brown leather on the buckle ends. That way you can use either or both with your new saddle!!! :-)
