Up for auction is this beautiful, little Spider Azalea (Rhododendron stenopetalum 'Linearifolium') currently growing in a four inch container. This very rare and highly unique Azalea will make a lovely addition to a woodland garden or unique plant collection.
This strange creature hails from the sacred slopes of Japan's Mt Fuji. Some mistake it for a Cannabis plant, but few recognize this plant with the narrow, hairy leaves and feathery flowers as the Azalea it really is!
There's something noble about consistency, and I can't help admiring how consistent the Spider Azalea is. The leaves are feathery and spidery. The flowers are feathery and spidery. It's growth habit is feathery and spidery. Even its name is spidery! It is what it is and it doesn't pretend to be otherwise. It's beautiful and airy and light. The leaves are soft. The subtly perfumed flowers- electric as fireworks- are so deeply divided they look like shredded ribbons of purple, pink and red. It spreads quickly forming a feathery blanket of foliage that doesn't try or need to compete with more dominating or bold plantings. It's whimsical and odd and entrancing!
While technically deciduous, Spider Azalea never seems to go out of leaf completely. It blooms in Spring and the individual flowers can hold up for nearly 2 months. It can take lots of sun, but it does prefer the filtered shade of an overhead tree around midday and regular water (as long as the soil is loose and well-drained) is preferred. It grows sort of like a tall spreading ground cover, rarely exceeding 3 feet in height. This adaptable Azalea does as well on the Pacific Coast as it does in the South. A special plant and a great addition to a Rhododendron or Azalea garden, Spider Azalea is recommended for USDA Zones 6 and warmer.

I will always ship your items as inexpensively as possible. Unfortunately, Ebay does not always allow for shipping calculations to be as accurate or comprehensive as possible. Therefore, the best thing to do is to contact me if you are confused or want an accurate quote. But please remember that I want you to get the best shipping value, I don't try to profit from shipping, and I'm happy to accommodate your shipping preferences.
I ship all plants Monday through Wednesday only to insure the fastest shipment and to avoid the possibility of plants sitting at the post office over the weekend. Fedex packages ship out on Mondays only, so remember to make payment by Monday morning if you want your plant the same week. I promise to get your plants to you fast!
To minimize weight and shipping costs, most plants are removed from their pots and excess soil is scraped from the rootball which is then bundled in plastic to retain moisture. I work hard to package your plants so that they arrive in good condition, and I have rarely encountered a shipping problem. But please remember that plants may incur minor blemishes and may require a few days to recover from shipping. I cannot be responsible for plants once they leave my possession so please consider shipping insurance.
NOTE ON COMBINED SHIPPING OF MULTIPLE ITEMS: If you win multiple items I will happily offer you the most cost effective shipping options. While Priority Mail is usually the cheapest and fastest way to send smaller items, Priority Mail gets very expensive for larger items. In those instances, I often recommend Fedex Ground because it is the least expensive and usually the fastest (if I ship on Monday, Fedex Ground usually make it across the country for a Friday delivery). Because Ebay has an exclusive deal with UPS, I cannot list Fedex as a shipping option. But if you select UPS shipping it will be shipped via Fedex.
Outside the continental United States the buyer is responsible for any loss incurred during shipping, including confiscation by customs.
