Russian watches (pocket watch) were always
very popular worldwide. Genuine connoisseurs highly rated the Russian watches
for their functionality, reliable movement and design. And it is not a surprise
because the traditions of Russian quality go back to the times of Cathrine II.
At that time the first watch factory in St.Petersburg was opened. The real
developement of the watch industry began in the Soviet period. Approximately
twenty watch factories produced famous Russian watches.

of the brand "Raketa" ("Rocket")
Petrodvortsovy Watch Factory has deep
historical roots going to the 18th century when in 1721 by decree of Peter the
Great the Imperial Lapidary Factory was founded. The factory got the present
name in 1954 by the decision of the Soviet government and has since specialized
in the production of men's wrist and pocket watches. All watches produced by
the factory since 1962, are called Raketa. The "Raketa"
("Rocket") watches were the most famous "civil" watches for
the Russian people, without a military destination. They were manufactured by
"Petrodvoretz watch factory", located in the city of Petrodvoretz
(about 30 km. from St.Petersburg.
