Larry Graham Custom Moon JJ4 Bass

 Hello Everyone!..

Super Rare!!  Up for Auction is LARRY GRAHAM'S PERSONAL CUSTOM SIGNATURE MOON JJ4 JAZZ PGM BASS GUITAR!!..

From the Pioneer of Funk Slap Bass!..  This is the Man with the Hands that Started It All, "Thumpin' and Pluckin'" on the Bass!..

Mr. Larry Graham
-- whom Louis Johnson, Bootsy Collins, Stanley Clarke, Flea, Les Claypool, and a host of others all got it from!..

of "Sly and the Family Stone", "Graham Central Station" and "Prince" Fame!..

This bass guitar, formerly owned by LARRY GRAHAM himself, this is one of his Personal, Custom, Stage-Played, Tour Basses from the Early '90s, and is Hand-Signed by LARRY GRAHAM himself!!!

This Bass is the REAL DEAL!  The more rare, first issue Moon Jazz JJ4 with the Fender Jazz Shape and Size Bass!..  Custom-Made!..  Yes, with LARRY GRAHAM'S Actual SIGNATURE on the Electronics Cover!!..

Extremely Rare and Very Cool!!..

It’s one thing to own a signature guitar but to own a guitar/bass that was actually owned and played by the artist on stage is a completely different level and feeling!..

Now is your chance to own, whom is considered to be the Best, "Baddest" Funk Bass Player out there, Mr. Larry Graham's Screaming Bass Guitar!!...

A piece of music history, this stage played bass from "The Godfather of Funk Slap Bass"..

.....................................................................................................

This Boutique Bass has an Ash Body with a Maple Neck, All Top Notch Wood, Japanese Made, Superior Hand-Made Craftsmanship, 4-String, Right Handed, all White Finish with Gold Hardware, Bartolini Pickups and Bartolini Preamp, Metal Nut, Deep Neck Joint, Bolt-In Neck, an Extended Fretboard for Slapping, the Controls are Vol/Vol/Bass/Treble, Hardly No Fret Wear, LG's Signature, Weighs 4.9 kilos, with its original MOON gig bag included!..

I have to say this bass plays like butter, better than any other instrument out there, and is built with the highest quality like a samurai sword!.  It has the best intonation, no dead spots, and the neck is as straight as can be!..

This bass, made in 1992, has a Jazz Bass 34 inch scale, and has the 4 knobs lined up straight..  It also has a slightly larger body for stage presence..  This is the first design Moon "Larry Graham JJ4" from the early 90's..  These basses were never mass produced, so there is not much information about "Moon" anywhere..  A Very Cool and Rare Bass..

The Moon JJ4 Jazz Bass is an enhanced version of the Fender Jazz Bass, designed and endorsed by "The Godfather" and "Pioneer of Funk Slap Bass" himself, Larry Graham of "Graham Central Station" and "Sly and the Family Stone"..  These basses are incredibly well built and finished, have a fantastic sound and feel about them, and are extremely versatile..

This bass is 100% original, complete, stock, and very clean; tiny finish chips at the edge of the frets from Larry Graham's stage performances where Mr. Graham would rake a microphone stand across the fretboard as seen in this "Hair" video clip from Japanese TV provided below (no fret edge issues), and the white finish has turned into a cream color all due to age, couple micro size touch ups at the edge of the headstock (please see pics).

Overall Excellent Condition!!..   8.5+/10 !!!..   Custom-Made!..  The Artist's, Larry Graham's "Super Thump-Pluck-Slap-Chopper Bass"!!..  The 4-String Moon Bass, just call her "Sunshine!!"..

This "MOON JJ4" Jazz Bass Guitar sports its "PGM" (Professional Guitar Manufacturer) decal on the back of the headstock..

...........................................................................................................

About Moon Custom Guitars, Tokyo, Japan; PGM Professional Guitar Manufacturer;

Moon is a boutique guitar and bass manufacturer that construct every instrument by hand from custom order of their clientele..

If you know Moon basses, you'll understand the following quote from a description I found online which sums Moon Basses up perfectly:

"They only use the best materials and craftsmanship to make their instruments and do so only in limited quantities.  Getting your hands on a Moon guitar is a reason for celebration, as they are that rare.  These instruments are built for professional players by professional luthiers with zero tolerance for error."  If you are looking for a truly special instrument that will last a lifetime, this is it!..

Moon also made a 5-string "JJ Bass" versions as well, 50 each of the 4 & 5 string basses, but could be less.

When you hold this bass in your hands, you will know by looking and feeling the bass, this is the REAL DEAL!!..

A Very Cool and Rare Bass!..  Other late Moon Jazz Bass models have a different, slimmer headstock, changed Moon logo, and a slimmer, more contoured body to avoid lawsuits from Fender USA & Fender Japan..

Moon is not a large manufacturer as they make these basses one-by-one, by hand..  This bass guitar is truly rare to begin with, especially one with his SIGNATURE on it, left cleanly on the bass, ready to be showcased!!..

Note
:  These basses were never offered to the public with Larry Graham's signature on them, so this is extremely rare..

Moon Basses, especially these 1st generation, classic Fender Jazz Bass shaped models, are also very rare in the U.S.A..

Moon bass players include, of course, Larry Graham, as well as Pino Palladino, Mike Watt ( check out Mike Watt's blog on Moon Basses right here:  http://www.hootpage.com/hoot_gallery-thudstaffs.html ), and many other great players..  This bass is simply superb!..  Think high-end like Fodera, Alembic, Sadowsky, Alleva-Coppolo, Lakland, Carl Thompson, Zon, Status, Warwick, Spector, Ken Smith, and Mike Lull on this one..  It's that good!..

The bass is set up, with new strings, ready to play, or showcase!!..

A Music Museum Piece!!..

Larry Graham is as Stellar as Jimi Hendrix!!..

Some History about Mr. Graham's Gear:

It's hard to imagine Larry Graham without his white, Japanese-built Moon custom bass.  He designed it back in 1982, inspired by an old Fender Jazz he had used with Graham Central Station.  That axe sported a body-mounted microphone that helped Larry to sing and play at the same time.  "We had to rebuild the mike after every show," reports Graham's tech. "Larry would absolutely destroy it, sometimes before he even got to the performance.  He sound checks the same way he performs, full out, and the microphone couldn't take it."  The Moon Bass built to Graham's expectations has Bartolini pickups and is strung with light-gauge GHS Bass Boomers.  Graham runs his signal through a Morley Volume pedal with an A/B switcher, a Roland Jet-Phaser, a Mu-Tron Octave Divider, and an old Morley Fuzz Phaser, which he first used on "Ain't No Bout-A-Doubt It."

Graham requires an extensive knowledge of analog electronics.  Larry loves vintage effects, and his techs have often had to revive equipment that hasn't been plugged in since the '70s. "It's interesting," says LG's associates, "When we go out to vintage shops looking for things, Larry associates certain effects with certain songs. That's because back in the early days, people would actually write the song around the effect."

Graham started using Sunn amps when he was with Sly Stone; he moved on to Fenders and then settled on an Acoustic 360/361, "the kind with the folded horn",
and other special Acoustic Control Corp. Jazz Bass Amp models.  Today, Larry's Hughes & Kettner rig includes a 650-watt BassBase 600 hybrid head, which drives BC 410 and BC 215 cabinets. "A lot of people are fussy about the specifics of their sound, but Larry's thing is just to turn it up until the stage rumbles.  When it starts shaking, he knows he's got it right.  It may sound simple, but that's his way of doing it, and there is only one Larry Graham."
