RARE Hand Engraved Original #367 by Orville J. Kuhl - Signed + Dated - Beautiful: Up for auction is a truly magnificent work of art by Master Engraver Orville J. Kuhl. Mr. Kuhl is most famously known for his intricate engravings on vintage and antique firearms. Gene Autry owned a 1934 single action Colt Army Model Revolver signed by Orville Kuhl and just recently (April 21, 2012) a gold plated Colt Model 1908 Pistol signed by Kuhl sold at auction for $12,000 USD (plus $2,340 Buyers Premium + Tax). If you take time to search for these engraved items, you will certainly be impressed by his other work on these firearms. This one of a kind engraved steel plate is quite rare and I have had a difficult time finding other examples of his work (other than firearms). I have found a number of posts from gun collectors, showcasing their items signed by Orville J. Kuhl and one noted that "Orville J. Kuhl was a Master Engraver whose style featured his trademark border outlines throughout his work which made it easy to spot his work at gun shows"
Condition: Please take your time to view each of the attached photos for this unique engraving for the best detailed description. This striking piece of art titled "Mr. Mallard" portrays a Mallard Duck descending into the waters of a grassy marsh. I have tried to capture the details of the 1000's of hand engraved lines of the tall grass, the 1000's of hand engraved details of the Mallard - from each pinfeather to the webbing on the feet. This was a difficult item to photograph given the glare from the lights onto the fine engraved lines but hopefully you can see the work that was put into this masterpiece. There are 3 plates total. The large back plate (16x18) the middle plate (9 3/4x11 1/2) and the actual plate which has been engraved, titled and signed (9x11). Each of these plates are a brushed steel plate with a highly polished border which gives depths to the item and each plate is in immaculate condition. The back side has an engraved description, number (367) and date (1964) of of the piece, an original photograph of Mr. Kuhl in his workshop (note the firearm to his left side), and another engraved line with the address of Mr. Kuhl. The back plate does have a wire for mounting this item to the wall or the winning bidder may decide to accentuate this incredible piece with a custom frame but either way, this is a rare opportunity to own an elusive original egraving by Orville J. Kuhl.
Please Note: ALL of my auctions ALWAYS start at a low price AND there is NEVER A RESERVE on any of my auctions!
**I am asking that you please view the photos for the most accurate description for this auction. I have photographed this Original Orville J. Kuhl engraving against a plain white sheet of paper in order to capture all of the details and I have added the optional 'zoom' view to each photo for your convenience.
