This is a highly sought after Gibson Les Paul Standard model which features an Explorer neck & headstock and a symmetrical-shaped body. This 27-year-old guitar is in excellent condition with hardly a dent on it (with just a couple light dings on the body), and the neck is just about perfect... especially for its age. There are some light checking marks on the front and back of the body, as well as the back of the neck and headstock, and also on the front of the headstock. The back of the headstock has the most checking marks (as pictured). There is no finish chipping, and there were no breaks or repairs done to the guitar. Everything is smooth-to-the-touch. I'm not sure if the humbuckers are original, but they appear to be. I cannot confirm it though if those are the Dirty Fingers or not, but the guitar "sounds like an old Les Paul." Acoustically, it rings nicely. It's not dull-sounding like many other LPs that I've tried in the past. I think the Madagascar ebony fretboard helps too in that aspect. Speaking of, the fretboard is black but also has some brown swirls in it. It's certainly ebony for its lack of "a grainy texture surface" as rosewood fretboards typically have. The frets look like they were hardly played on; There's plenty of life left in them. There is a small stain mark on the back of the neck (as pictured) that appears underneath the finish, and there are a couple, yellowish/light brown stains on the bottom of the guitar's body (as pictured) also. The guitar weighs in at a comfortable 8.5 lbs on my postal scale. It includes a brand new Gibson rectangular hardshell case (made in Canada) that's made specifically for the LP model. Also included are LOXX strap locks (one of the best in my opinion) which are made in Germany, and the original, black buttons are included in the sale as well... and finally, the Walker & Williams black, soft leather guitar strap (also brand new by the way) is also included.

The guitar and case are clean, odor-free, and well kept in my smoke-free & pet-free home. Here's a quick summary again of its features:

- Make/Model: Gibson Les Paul DC XPL

- Year: 1985

- Country of Mfg: USA

- Fingerboard: Ebony

- Inlays: Pearl dots

- Body Wood: Mahogany w/carved maple top

- Finish/Color: Ferrari Red

- Scale Length: 24-3/4"

- Frets: Jumbo

- Nut Width: 1 11/16"

- Nut Material: Bone

- Pickups: Dirty Fingers (?)

- Controls: 2-volume, 2-tone, 3-way switch

- Bridge / Tailpiece: Gibson Nashville w/stop tail

- Tuners: Grover

- Case: Gibson rectangular hardshell case for Les Paul model (rare and brand new)

This model was made only during 1985... just one year. That's how rare it is. It is supposedly a Custom Shop-made model without the branding during the Ed Norlin era (until 1985 and was the final year), and this model was developed under his supervision according to a couple of sources.

Well, those were the details about it, and now here's my advice to those who may be interested in purchasing it: BUY IT NOW before someone else does.

This is not something one can easily find at any guitar retail store. It looks different from the crowd, but it's still a Les Paul Standard no matter what... and it Rocks!
