Solid Silver box

Please read my description carefully, there is quite a bit of unusual information about this miniature box. It could be used as a snuff holder, trinket case, pill container, peppermint box or simply to enjoy.

The box is made out of solid silver and has a hinged lid. It has repousse (raised) designs covering the box.

Monogram:  This box has 2 different styles of monogram on the top. There is a "dotted" monogram that reads E.M.W.B. Then it has been hand etched A T THOOR (I think) and the year 1905.

The "dotted" monogram was something that was used in the 1800's. My opinion is this was made in the 1800's and the hand etching was done when somebody acquired it in 1905. This style of box was popular around the 1850's.

Length:       1 7/8"

Width:         1"

Height:        1 1/2"

Weight:      14 grams

31.1 grams = 1 troy ounce

Marks: The marks are very rubbed. To me they appear to be German hallmarks (very possibly Hanau). The one that I am sure of is the silver fineness mark {*800} that you see in the middle.

*This is made out of 800/1000 parts (hallmarked, tested and guaranteed) silver. Sterling silver is actually 925/1000 parts silver. Continental silver is generally made in different grades than US silver...800, 830, 835, 875, 900, 935, etc.

Condition: This has been used...There are several areas where it has been overpolished leaving holes/slits in the silver (found with my jeweler loupe). There are (2) 1/8" splits in the same area on the side (shown in last photo). It appears that it was repaired long ago and has come undone again. I am not sure if the pin is original. I'm probably making this sound you can see, it displays well. There are no dents and the lid opens and closes fine.

I guarantee your satisfaction or I will refund your payment in full including shipping both ways (domestic).

Rating = 7 out of 10

I have a number of old vintage cases/boxes (vesta, Dutch, card, vinaigrette, etc) up for sale (or going up) on Ebay, so please keep checking my auctions.

IMPORTANT          International Shipping                 IMPORTANT

It is the responsibility of the buyer to pay duty/VAT tax. These fees are not included in the item price or shipping cost. Please check with your country's customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to bidding or buying. This is a fee that your country collects and has nothing to do with me as a seller. I am often asked to lie on the customs forms so that the buyer can get around paying these fees. I will not lie on the forms, so please don't ask me to do so.

I ship international items via the U.S. Postal Service. Most items I will ship first class mail as long as they don't exceed $100.00 in value. First class does not include insurance or tracking which means I will not be responsible for a package if it gets damaged or lost. Due to recent lost packages that I had to pay for...anything that sells for over $100 will automatically be sent via priority mail which is generally around $19.00 (if it will fit in a small flat rate box safely. This is approximately 2X5X7). Otherwise it will need to be sent in a bigger priority box which is $35.00 - $40.00 :o( Priority mail has tracking and insurance included in the price. Please keep these shipping costs in mind when bidding on my items. You can always contact me for an exact shipping quote if you intend on bidding more than $100.00 for an item. I will combine the cost of shipping if you win more than one auction and a second item generally ships free or for a very low amount. Check my feedback, I am very fair on my shipping fees.

SPECIAL NOTE: The United States heightened their security measures for packages shipped overseas on November 18, 2010. This has slowed down shipping on a lot of my items. Packages that used to take 7-10 days can take up to 4-6 weeks. I don't have any control over this, so please be patient if your package takes longer than expected. Shipping priority often ensures that it will be delivered within 10 days. So, if time is important to you, I suggest that you opt for the priority shipping route.

U.S. Shipping & Insurance

I ship via the USPS and I DO combine shipping fees. If you win more than one auction, I will take the highest shipping fee and add .75 cents - $1.00 for each additional item...sometimes I can add them for free if it stays under a certain weight. Included in your shipping fee is delivery confirmation & insurance against loss or damage to the item. I insure 95% of my items through an outside source. On the rare occassion that an insurance claim has to be made, this ensures that you get refunded your money quickly and without a lot of hassle. The USPS can be a pain in the rear.  :o)

Payment Terms

Payment is due within ten (10) days of auction close unless you are bidding on other items. You can send me an email and I will extend the payment due date. At this time, I accept PayPal. If you aren't able to pay with PayPal, please contact me for possible other arrangements. :o)

Please read my feedback, most customers feel that my items are much better in person than how I described to them to be on the auction page. I only make refunds for errors in listings, I do not make them due to buyers remorse. I list all obvious flaws - this does not mean I will catch every single pin head size ding on a 150 year old item. This is what I consider "expected".  If I say it has a wavy feel to it and you don't know what that means, please email me before bidding. Don't wait until you have received it to say "well, I saw that you said wavy...but, I didn't know what that meant" or  "I looked up the maker after I received my spoon and he was in business in 1855, not 1854". Please use your own reference material to determine the age/authenticity. Look it up before you bid, not after you receive the item. I may be getting my information from a different book, or I may have made a typo, or I just plain might be wrong. Errors on my part are never intentional, but they do happen ~ afterall, I am human :) On occasion I add to my descriptions, please check for additions at the bottom of this page before placing  your final bid.

If you do receive an item that you aren't happy with, email me. I don't like to have unhappy customers, only happy ones. Check my feedback, I'm a fair and honest seller. Please give me the chance to fix the problem before you leave a negative feedback. I make my living selling on Ebay and when a customer leaves a negative feedback, that hurts my reputation (and my feelings :-). If I do make an error, I refund shipping costs ~ BOTH ways!

Requests for refunds must be made within 3 days of receiving your purchase and items must be returned within 14 days of notifying me, in their original condition.
