OFFERED IS A FABULOUS HAND PAINTED EARLY GERMAN-AUSTRIA OYSTER PLATE MADE BY MARX & GUTHERZ IN CARLESBAD, AUSTRIA DATING circa 1876-1889. 

THIS BEAUTIFUL ANTIQUE OYSTER PLATE IS VERY RARE IN ITS COLOR COMBINATION OF PINK, GOLD AND BLUE, ALSO THE SCALLOPED FOUR SIDED OYSTER PLATES ARE VERY HARD TO COME BY.

IT IS DECORATED WITH FIVE OYSTER WELLS AND ONE CENTRAL SMALLER WELL FOR LEMON OR VINEGRETTE.  EACH OYSTER SHELL IS SURROUNDED BY HEAVY GOLD. THE SCALLOPED BLUE RIM IS DECORATED WITH GOLD ETCHED WHITE FLOWERS, LEAVES AND TWIG DESIGNS.  

THE BACK IS MARKED WITH THE MARX & GUTHERZ MAKERS MARK THAT DATES THIS PIECE TO 1876-1889. IT ALSO HAS THE NUMBERS 1829/49 AND THE IMPRESSED NUMBERS OF 2212/87.

THIS FABULOUS ANTIQUE OYSTER PLATE IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION WITH NO CHIPS, CRACKS OR REPAIRS. THERE IS LIGHT WEAR ON THE BLUE AND ON THE GOLD AND A SMALL FLEA BITE ON THE BACK EDGE OF THE RIM.

THIS PLATE HAS GREAT  COLORS AND WOULD FIT IN NICELY WITH ANY ANTIQUE OR MODERN THEME. THIS HAS TO BE ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL OYSTER PLATES THAT I HAVE COME BY!!!

IT MEASURES 8.75x9 INCHES SQUARE OR 10.25 INCHES DIAGONALLY.
