This is an Original 18th century "SHERIFF'S WRIT/WARRANT", from Colonial Virginia. Dated "1771". Singlesheet, two-sided (back/reverse side endorsed w/handwritten notations) Size approx. 6" by 7 1/2" . Handwritten in brown ink on fine, laid paper w/Watermark. Nice Condition overall; neatly folded (now unfolded). Document has some light "fold-separation" (these "splits"/tears have been corrected using archival tape applied to the back of the document (this tape is virtually invisible); otherwise, o.k. ....Hand-written "arrest warrant" dated "the 29th Day of June in the XIth Year of Our Reign (i.e. King George III's)" (1771). The Sheriff of Bedford, County, Virginia is instructed to detain NICHO. OWEN & PHILLIP OWEN to answer a complaint by JOSEPH PAYNE for Debts owed. (***Please Note: This document is pre-American Revolution, and was written when Virginia was still a Colony, during the reign of King George III) .
