I loved this book. It is a totally different take on Frankenstein. I was hooked from the very first page. Now, I have listened to Frankenstein 2 on audio cassette and will buy Frankenstein 3 soon. Dean Koontz is my very favorite author because he keeps the story moving by inter-weaving several scenarios with different characters all at one time. I love that type of story because you are taken away from a very interesting part at the end of one chapter and brought into a different scenario in the following chapter. That leaves you especially anxious to get back to the characters that you just left. And you will, eventually. If you love mystery and suspense, you would love this trilogy. I can hardly wait for Frankenstein 3.
I Have read many books by this author and I have enjoyed reading every one of them. I had book two in this series and I wouldn't read it till I had book one, so I bought it and read both books only to fine I needed a book three, I guess it's back to shopping because I have to read the conclusion now. If your looking for a good read that is science fiction but close to reality you should try reading books by this author. You can wait for the movies but it is not the same part of the meaning seems to get lost without the knowledge of what people are thinking and feeling. So I would highly suggest that if your looking for a book that will stir your imagination and keep you on the edge of your seat pick up one by Dean Koontz.
From the imagination of storyteller supreme, Dean Koontz, comes the first installment of the riveting Frankenstein series... Mad scientist Victor Frankenstein has survived for over two centuries using arcane techniques to keep himself "young"-and he is now bent on the destruction of the human race, creating a "super race" with DNA and cloning technology...they are stronger, faster, and harder to kill than any human, and they have been programmed with a deep hatred for the "old race", awaiting only their master's order to begin waging their Final War. Unknown to Frankenstein, who now is called Victor Helios, his original "monster" has also survived the centuries. He is now Deucalion-intelligent, compassionate, and stronger than even the New Race creatures, and he is committed to destroying his megalomaniac creator. He meets and joins forces with New Orleans detectives Carson O'Connor and Michael Maddison, who at first have a hard time believing Deucalion's horrifying revelation of the coming nightmare... This tale is a complete thrill ride, frightening and hard to put down. You will want to read the continuing stories, "Frankenstein-City of Night" (book 2), "Dead and Alive" (book 3) and "Lost Souls" (book 4) when you finish this one!Read full review
Dean Koontz steps on no toes here and does not disgrace the good Mary Shelley name by "rewriting" Frankenstein's Monster. He simply takes the classic character and his cruel creator and brings them into this century. Yes, Ducaleon is Frankensten's monster and he's still alive and living a secluded life in a monestary. His world is shaken though when an old friend sends for him. He comes to New Orleans and learns his creator is still alive and wreaking havoc on the good citizens of the Big Easy. He is alive, wreaking havoc and still creating. Although his methods have advanced since Ducaleon was created, there are still problems emerging with his new creations....deadly problems. This book had me on the edge of my seat from the first page to the last. Another masterpiece by Dean Koontz!
I like Dean Koontz and have read many of his books, but I approached this one a bit skeptically. It seemed a bit presumptuous to take on the Frankenstein story and bring it to modern life. However, he does it very well. It is fast-paced and it scared me. Good dialogue. I love great characterization, and so I would have liked it better had the characters been developed in greater detail, but this was a really enjoyable book and difficult to put down once you start it.
