-The Titanic's Orchestra-

A nice photo in a MID SIZE Poster Print of seven of the eight band members aboard the Titanic on the night of the sinking.

The epitome of unselfishness and devotion to duty as the ship sank, these wonderful musicians literally played until the Titanic vanished beneath their feet and pitched them into the sea.

Although it is well known what kind of music was played - ragtime, waltzes, and numbers such as 'In The Shadows', there has always been a question of the last song while the stern rose out of the sea. The smart money is on 'Nearer My God To Thee', (in fact, the band leader, Wallace Hartley, center, had said that if he was on a sinking ship he would do no better than to play "Nearer My God To Thee" or "Oh God Our Help in Ages Past"), but many other reliable witnesses remember 'Song D'Automne'.

This seller doesn't much concern himself with such trivia however, but is far more moved by the truly great question of how these incredible hero's were able to rise to the level of courage and cool they did in the face of almost certain death.

The body of Wallace Hartley was recovered 2 weeks after the sinking from the Atlantic by the Mackay-Bennett. He was wearing evening dress with green facings and a brown overcoat. Strapped to his body was his music box and in his pockets, among other things, was a gold fountain pen with his initials W.H.H.

On May 17th, 1912, Hartley was buried in England in the small textile town of Colne and over 30,000 mourners lined the streets to pay their last respects.

The names of all the musicians will be shipped along with the photo.

From the AIS Photo Art Gallery, the poster is a High Resolution Print on Premium Heavy High Gloss Photo Paper with a 50 year non-fade warranty. It measures approximately 13" x 18", (exact dimensions may vary) and comes with a 1/4 inch white border.
