15 sophisticated projects turning clay into turquoise, lapis lazuli, jade, coral, amber, ivory, agate and silver metals. Begin with 71 pages how to achieve these transformations, and mold making. Introductory and intermediate projects will keep the artist in you busy mixing materials like gold leaf into the clay. Lots of color pictures "how to", and finished pieces accompany paragraphs of instruction and diagrams. The surface decorating techniques, painting and lacquering can be applied to many of your own designs from jewelry making, to timeless primitive artifacts. This book is a great reference manual to add to an artists library. I like the gallery section with pieces from many artists. This book will add another dimension to your creativity with polymer clay. I am glad I took a chance on buying this book, I think everyone who works with any kind of clay will find lots of interest within. There is nothing" cute" to sculpt from this book as you may find in many polymer clay books. This is serious art. The author Victoria Hughes has 30 years self supporting art experience with sculpture and teaching in Canada and the USA. 5 Star recommendation!! ;) SSCopelyRead full review
This is one of the best clay books I've ever read. Tory Hughes shows wonderful recipes of how to imitate Lapis Lazuli, Jade, Silver, Ivory and so on. And her kind of writing, her meaning is really wonderful. I have a lot of clay books, but this one is a "must have" for everyone who "plays with clay", for beginners as well as for advanced clayers. It's a pleasure to regard the excellent pictures and examples/gallery. Tory is such a talented artist, I hope that I can visit one of her workshops one day. I'm living in Germany, so this is not so easy.
This is a good book, nothing really new, but great instructions on several techniques. I have read through the book and plan to use some of the projects shown in this book.
