Kim Conrad: Kim Basinger
PLAYBOY MAGAZINE

January 1988

The holidays are a time for puttin' on the ritz, so this month's cover is decked out with a painting by artist Robert Hoppe, a legend for his glamourous art-deco cityscapes. If you can't find the Rabbit right away, we suggest you ask a friend to drive.

A WARNING about scans. In most cases scans of magazines that look Mint may only be Fine or better. Even lower grades will not show most imperfections, or even damage. If there is no description of defects be very cautious. Higher grade bargains may not be the bargain you expected.

Twice now sellers have charged me $4.00 for postage and spent 83¢ to mail. Some sellers make more money on "Handling Fees" than on their sales! No outrageous "handling" fees hidden in postage that many sellers charge to increase their profits.

Tired of your packages getting "lost-in-the-mail?" I've sent over 2,800 items and to my knowledge only two were lost. One was sent to Taiwan, China and one to Austin, Texas. Domestic shipments include Delivery Conformation!

Have you ever purchased an item with a dark and/or blurry photo? Were you disapointed when you received it? All of my scans are of the actual item you will receive unless stated otherwise. No deceptions! I want you to know what you are getting and be happy with what you receive!

Should payment not be received within 7 days an alert will be filed with eBay. If payment is still not received within the next 7 days, the item(s) will be re-listed. Please be responsible for your bids!

Upon receipt of payment I will leave feedback for you giving the date of mailing. I do not hold your feedback (like many sellers do) waiting to see what you've left for me. If you do not usually leave feedback, give it a try. A simple "thanks" or "received" will do.

If you have recently moved be sure to update your eBay mailing address. I really hate sending your package to the wrong address.

Most important of all... thank you for your confidence and your bids!

MY GRADING FOR
PLAYBOY MAGAZINES

Mint (MT) Rarely seen, even on the newsstand. Perfect in every respect. No blemishes and no signs of handling including the centerfold and pages.
Near Mint (NRMT) Called mint by most sellers. Only a minor blemish or two. No creases. No thumb dents on the front or back. All four corners sharp with no wear. The centerfold may have a very light thumb dent or two.
Excellent (EX) Only minor signs of being handled. Very few light thumb dents on the cover. Corners not perfect but still fairly sharp. Still has full gloss on the cover with no signs of rubbing with other magazines. The centerfold must have no creases other than what was intended when published, but may have a couple of light thumb dents.
Very Fine (VF) Has been hadled but with care. There would be a few light thumb dents but no heavy ones. There should be no long creases on the front or back but there may be one or two corners with a small dog-ear crease. There should be no signs of seperation from the staples or spine. The centerfold should show only a few light thumb dents with no extra folds or creases and the pages should have no yellowing or discoloring.
Fine (F) Better than average with light thumb dents but no heavy ones break the surface of the paper. There may be small dog-eared corners but no large, heavy cover creases. There should be no signes of the cover coming loose from the staples or spine and only light cover wear, even on dark cover issues. There may be a tiny tear or two at the edge. The centerfold should have no extra folds or creases and only light thumb dents. Any newsprint pages may have very light yellowing around the edges of older issues.
Very Good (VG) This is the condition most usually found with average signs of handling. Has light thumb dents with a couple of heavier ones. There may be one or two light creases on the cover. The cover is solidly attached to the staples or spine but may show early signs of seperation from staples. There could be one or two tiny or small edge tears. The centerfold may have an extra crease or two from improper closing and may have multiple light thumb dents. The pages of older issues may have some light yellowing around the edges due to age and exposure to light.
Good (G) Obviously well read but still in decent shape. May have a cover crease or two or dog-ear creases at the corners. May have signs of having been rolled back while reading. The cover is still attached but may show some small tears around the staples or a small split at the spine. There can be some minor exposure to moisture but affecting the cover and the first or last few pages - like someone sit a beer bottle or glass on the cover. The pages may have light discolorization along the edges. The centerfold must be present but may be loose from the staples or spine and may have multiple heavier thumb dents and/or creases.
Fair (Fr) Very well read and not cared for at all. May have lots of creases, small tears, split at the spine but still attached, worn corners and even some damage from moisture, but the majority of the pages are still in decent condition. The centerfold may be missing. Generally not collectible except for the first couple of years of the publication if more than 30 years old. If clean and complete it still could be a nice readable copy, torn down for the pictures, or used for reference.
Poor (Pr) Hardly worth it unless there is something special about the magazine. Can have a badly torn cover or pages, water wrinkling, cover loose from the staples, missing pages. The centerfold may be missing. Not collectible except for the first few issues and even then only as a filler until a better one can be found.

Between grades are designated as + or /. (ie, VG+ or VG/F with the latter being the better of the two.)

Pricing does not depend entirely on cover condition. Also considered is who the centerfold is, the interview, advertizing, celebrities involved, and the desireability of a particular issue. Generally, January issues bring a higher price due to the Playmate Review pictorial where all 12 of the past years Playmates are shown. Also, the June issues due to the Playmate of the Year pictorials. But, in the end as with anything else, any specific copy is worth only what the buyer is willing to pay.

All magazines have been cleaned and disinfected for your protection, especially during these times of germs, virisuses, Bird flu, Swine flu, Mad-Cow flu, Asian flu, Kathmandu, or Timbuck-Tu flu. You can say with confidence, "I bought it from Jim." Not, "I caught it from Jim."
