Pojar and MacKinnon is one of the best, easiest to use botanical books for the NW West Coast. With well-composed colored photos, "common language" descriptions, and folklore about each plant, it beats the heck out of Hitchcock when all you want is quick ID. Sometimes I just don't want to get my head around serious botanical terminology; Pojar gives it to you straight. Plus, Hitchcock has only line drawings. There are other good plant guides, but Pojar is indexed well and maybe easiest to use. It's got my "life list" marked in the back, just as if I were a birder. The companion volume by Lone Pine, Plants of the Inland Northwest and Southern Interior British Columbia, by Parish et al, is complementary, so I have both.

This guidebook to plants of the Pacific Northwest is absolutely fantastic. It has color photos of each plant, and details about it. Details include whether it is toxic to animals or people, latin name, common name, location of growth, Native American uses and legends about the plant, history, etc. I actually got it for my daughter who lives in Oregon, and she was able to identify many plants growing around her home, in state forest land, which she could not find in any other plant guide.
I bought this book because i want to learn about plants that grow in the Pacific Northwest. It is an excellent book with many useful photos and drawings that will help me to identify plants here. I also appreciate the uses of the plants and find it very interesting. I am very happy i bought this book and would recommend it to anyone wanting to learn more about this subject :)
Book arrived in new condition. Was able to identify different plants from a recent backpacking trip in the Northern Cascades.
