-The RMS Titanic Moored Outside The Fitting Out Basin, Awaiting Sea Trials-

-She's Ready-

This is an almost never before seen view taken in the early a.m. hours on April 2, 1912, of the Legendary Superliner awaiting Harland & Wolff shipyard tugs to take position for the tow out to Belfast Lough for her Sea Trials. At this point, her propellers are about to make their first revolutions.

Already in position at her stern is tug Huskisson that worked the port side & Herculaneum the starboard.

Out of view is the approaching tug Herald that pulled the forward line, Hornby that worked the starboard bow and Hercules the port bow.

Note the strong wind effects on the smoke coming from the ship's 3 forward stacks - an indication of both somewhat rough sea conditions that await in the Lough and that the stokers were hard at work in preparation for the trials. Note also ballast water spewing into the shipyard channel to bring the ship to an even keel, and the famous 500,000 lb. lift capacity 'Floating Crane' at her starboard side.

Out in the Lough she was given a speed test (20 knots), a drift test, numerous turning tests, start and stop tests, a wheel base test, an 'all engines full astern' test, two 40 mile 'straight run' tests and an anchor test.

Afterward, at about 8pm, she started the 600 mile trip to Southampton, where 7 days later she would begin her fateful maiden voyage.

This would be the Titanic's final moments in Belfast.

A wonderful and historical view.
