Fellow Phillies fans:
It is with a heavy heart that I am putting my one-of-a-kind Phanatic suit up for sale.
My Phanatic was given to me as a gift from an ex. She was meticulous, resourceful and suffered from borderline OCD, all of which could be learned after one look at this finished product. Without exaggeration, well over 100 (wo)man hours went into the painstaking construction of this Phanatic.
Over the years, we've all seen more than a few imitation Phanatics strolling around Ashburn Alley. Most are awful, some slightly less. But even the best renditions failed to do the Phanatic justice due the combination of shoddy craftsmanship and lack of attention to detail. I would be very surprised if there has ever been a better Phanatic created from scratch.
It has only been worn a few times (for pictures) and never outdoors. It was originally constructed as an elaborate Halloween costume. However, after seeing the final product, I couldn't bring myself to wear it out in Manhattan lest I be chased by a mob of Met fans.
So why am I parting ways with one of my most prized possessions? I've endured more than a couple heated arguments with my current (awesome) girlfriend after she found out that the creature she used to affectionately refer to as the "green monster" was a gift from an ex. Despite my best efforts, the Phanatic was inevitably deemed a sentimental gift that I had to part with and as much as I love the Phanatic, I unfortunately love her more for she sheds less and looks a million times better in a dress. It's a decision that I may very well regret later but for the time being, I've concluded that it's a necessary one for my happiness and physical well-being.
Preferred buyers would be parents looking to get their lucky kids a very special gift. I hope I get to see my Phanatic dancing with the real Phanatic during future Phillies broadcasts!
I'll also be throwing in the 3 limited edition collectibles that I have to part with for the same reason. Mr. Utley's picture is autographed.
