I have played them all, and to be honest I didnt want to like this wedge. I usually play all titleist clubs ,but after trying everything they offer (titleist) and trying everything everyone else offers(cleveland(second best), Mizuno, callaway, sonartec, etc). I keep coming back to this wedge. they stick on the green, no they dont spin back or roll(unless I make them), they stick like velcro, which to me is what a wedge should do. You cant read the green from 100 yards out so aim the club, hit the shot and it sticks where it hit. My divots are usually only a foot away from the ball when I get to the green,Its almost like someone dropped the ball straight from the sky, now Thats control. I have the 52,56 and 60 and they all perform perfectly. In the past, I've found it hard to have every wedge in the set perform and feel the way I like, but with this set, I have it all. Great feel on chips, awesome control on pitches, the best wedge ever out of the sand, easy flop shots with great distance control and deadly accurate on approach with the 52 (gap) thank you ping...... And oh yeah, Ping has the best customer service in the industry, bar none !Read full review
Best thing about the 58 degree is that you can leave the 56 and 60 at home. At my age this is very useful. Ping tours have more feel that the chunkier i-wedge and other cast models but are not as hyper sensitive as Titleist vokeys or the bladed clevelands/ callaways which I have tried to use but as a 12 handicap am just a bit too inconsistent to get the best out of. Wedges are a bit of a personal thing though so whatever works for you - use the thing and forget the hype.
This is not only the best wedge Ping ever made, but it's the best wedge on the market. I've used Cleveland's for at least 5 years, Callaway, Titleist wedges as well as a few off brand custom wedges and I'm telling you this Tour Wedge offers the best balance, weight, easy of use then any of the others. Very easy, controlled swing and you get consistent results. Even the latest Ping Tour W wedge doesn't perform like this one.
The balance and feel of this club made me put my Cleveland wedges on the shelf (soon to be up for sale). The design of the bounce makes it very easy to open the face on tight lies and working the ball out of the bunker was great. The thin top line was very attractive and when the club head was set on the ground it rested in line with the target line. The grooves in the club face made the ball dance on the green when called for. A great club that I would recommend to anyone looking to improve there short game.
Ping Tour wedges are my favourite wedges. I have this new to me 50* gap wedge, two 54* (one custom ground to take off a bit of bounce), 58* low bounce and 60* standard bounce. The spin just the right amount out of the sand, rough and fairway. They sit down nicely when they hit the green and don't bound forward or spin back too much. When chipping, they track the ball true with no surprises (accurate distance and direction). Only thing I would add would be even lower bounce options.
