Though the highly profitable golf ball industry maintains strict secrecy on their global sales levels, you can safely wager that they experienced a setback in 1969 when Karsten Solheim introduced his 'K' series irons and the rate if incidence of lost balls took a serious hit!
Perimeter weighted. Cavity back. Investment cast. Swing weighted. Correlated club set. These concepts, now pervasive in club design, are on full display in these drawings from Solheim's April 11, 1972 patent for a 'Correlated Golf Club Set.'
Ten years later, the evolved form of these clubs, the Ping Eye 2 series, went on to become the best-selling irons ever.
The genius of this man is reflected in the drawings he submitted to the United States Patent Office for these inventions. Artistry is evident from the engineered drawings all the way to the figure captions.
This auction is for a set of two reproduction prints. Each will be provided on artist quality, acid-free, 60-pound parchment style paper as shown above.
Prints are 8.5" by 11.0" (21.6 by 27.9 cm) in size and are ready to frame for display.
They are packaged in archive-safe, acid-free sleeves and shipped flat in a stiffened mailer to ensure safe arrival.
