About the 'Jasgur Collection' - Hollywood photographer to the stars,
Joseph Jasgur knew everyone worth knowing during the Golden Age of
movies, and had a knack for taking expressive and unusual candids of
the stars at work and at play. Armed with a radio-telephone and a sporty
Lincoln, he canvassed the premieres and nightclubs, gained entry to
exclusive parties and back alley hot-spots, clicking away and capturing
celebrities during the 1940s and 50s. His most famous subject was a young
Marilyn Monroe in 1946, and the sexy beach shots he snapped in Santa
Monica helped propel the teenage hopeful towards a movie contract,
and eventual stardom.
Joseph Jasgur carefully archived his best prints for his own personal files,
and it is those photographs that are offered here. In most
cases, the reverse of each photo bears photographer stamps, and often
hand-written information by the photographer.
Please note that the watermark 'The JASGUR Collection' is only on the
eBay scan, and is not on the original photograph. This is done to protect
the integrity and scarcity of the image!
