PHOTOGRAPHY. RARE RARE. ALFRED GWYNNE VANDERBILT. COACHING. “VENTURE” LONDON-BRIGHTON 1914.”  20 pages containing 19 silver print photographs of the coaching trip from London to Brighton, in Mr. Vanderbilt’s coach, the “Venture.” The first photo is of Mr. Vanderbilt as the coachman.  Oblong 12mo, bound in red suede, stamped in silver; all edges silver. Loosely laid in in Vanderbilt’s personal card “With Alfred G. Vanderbilt’s Compliments” [together with] the printed four-page, gilt-edged schedule for the trip, marked “Seventh Season.” “The Venture will run every week-day via Burford Bridge, Dorking and Horsham, passing through the most picturesque parts of Surrey and Sussex. . .  There’s a long history to Vanderbilt’s “Venture” and his attempts to preserve the old tradition of coaching.  We could not find another one of these for this year. A similar outing, celebrated with a similar “album” was done in 1908. Vanderbilt shipped the coach over from the United States. It was capable of carrying twelve passengers. These must have been some trips. The enclosed “schedule” gives an idea of the stops for lunch along the way etc.  Alfred G. Vanderbilt,  the third son of Cornelius Vanderbilt was a sportsman and exceedingly wealthy. He perished when the Lusitania was attacked by German UBoat in 1915.  We could find no other example of this album. THE BUYER WILL PAY $4.00 FOR SHIPPING. PLEASE CHECK OUT MY OTHER AUCTIONS.
