PAKBOATS XT-15 Solo Folding Kayak

This Pakboat XT-15 is only a few years old and is in great shape. I have only had it out in fresh water, never in salt water. It paddles very well and is easy to maneuver and yet it tracks well. It is easy to assemble, disassemble and to pack away. It is fresh smelling and is not mildewed.  After the last time out I vacuumed out any sand and water and toweled it down in and out.  Then I let it dry inside for 24 hours.  This boat is very close in handling to hard-shell kayaks, but with the convenience of a folding kayak for travel and storage.

This item comes with the Pakboat XT-15 Kayak, a break down paddle as pictured, the packing bag, the floatation bag pump, the assembly instructions and the tool kit. Shipping will depend on the destination. Local pick up is available in the Seattle Metro area.

The XT-15 kayak is very fast and the over-all paddling performance is exceptional. A stiff X-frame structure in aluminum results in a longer more efficient hull with consistent rocker, and a multi-chine cross section that further enhances performance. The moderate depth of the hulls minimizes wind effects and gets the gunwales out of the way of your hands for comfortable paddling.

The deck support is built into the deck itself, the hull is completely open - making the XTs incredibly easy to load. The Velcro seal around the deck eases assembly greatly - and the water stays out of the boat! The Pakboats XT-15 cockpit is longer to make it easier to get in and out of the kayak, and the cockpit combing has built-in corners that grab the optional spray skirt so it is easy to get on.

XTs come with far more flotation built in than most other kayaks, and unlike almost all other kayaks, XTs have three flotation tubes placed along either side as part of the hull, where it does most good. Typical flotation placement in most kayaks is in the ends, which is helpful because it helps prevent the end from submerging. But flotation in the ends is by definition very close to the hull's center line, and this does nothing for the hull's stability.  The XT-15 can also accept regular single floatation bags in the stern and the bow to lighten the boat in case of immersion in a self rescue situation.

Flotation in the XT-15 is placed evenly along the whole length on each side of the boat in three floatation tubes per side.  This keeps the hull floating level and stable once if it has taken on a few inches of water. This is very helpful in a self rescue situation. The XTs have 3 separate inflatable air bladders on each side for a total of 6. You could accidentally puncture a couple of floatation tubes and still have more flotation left than most other kayaks.

The XT-15 kayak has a 23 inch beam and moderate volume making it a great kayak for day tripping or a few days of camping. Its speed makes miles easy, and great stability lets you relax and enjoy the ride. This is a proven travel kayak.
