This crimp tool is exactly what many customers have been asking for: A top quality precision open barrel crimp tool with the versatility to handle the most popular micro sized offerings from Molex, Tyco, JST, etc...
If you're like most people, you're probably looking to buy a tool or a set of tools that can handle more than one type of open barrel contact.. And before I found out about Engineer's line of crimp tools, I thought that there were two basic types of OB crimp tools..
1. Relatively inexpensive, low quality, moderately versatile tools intended for "open barrel contacts".. These are readily available at most electronics stores. The problem with this group of crimp tools is two fold: First, they usually have two crimp anvils at most and therefore are somewhat limited in the variety of terminals they can crimp. Second, they don't work very well.. The anvils are poorly shaped, the upper and lower anvils are often misaligned and the rivet holding them together goes from loose to missing after a few hard crimps...
2. Expensive, high quality crimp tools made for specific contacts or contact groups.. These tools are made in Germany, Japan, Sweden or the USA and are intended for professional use (IE people who make a living by using them). I sell many crimp tools in this group.... These tools are great if 1. You can afford them and 2. They're made for the contact you're looking to crimp. They produce superior crimps and often have built in mechanisms aid the user during the crimping procedure (EG insulation stops, locators, etc.).
But if you're a serious DIY type or a hobbyist that's looking for a tool to crimp at least a few common types of OB contacts, you probably don't want to settle for poor quality crimps....And at the same time can't justify paying $300 for a professional grade tool that's made to crimp a terminal that you MIGHT be crimping for an upcoming project.. What to do?.. Engineer Inc. is your answer..
The PA-20 is a precision crimp tool that can crimp just about any micro sized contact and you won't need to finance it... It is a two stage crimp tool (IE the conductor and the insulation crimps are performed separately ) and the user has four F-type (Folded) crimp anvils to choose from for each stage (see table below for die dimensions).

Q: I would like to create a splitter cable. Can I crimp two wires with this tool?
A: Yes. Shown below is an actual wire stack crimp using a JST XH terminal.

● No permanent rivets: Bolted joint allows for complete disassembly as well as adjustments in joint tension. ● Replaceable carbon steel spring keeps the handles open, reducing operator fatigue. ● Safety lock keeps the handles closed for storage. ● Constructed of S55C steel (Japan). ● Lightweight (135g) and compact (175 x 57 x12 mm). ● Soft rubber handles for control and comfort.
Note: If the conductor and/or insulation "wings" of the contact don't point straight up and are excessively "V" shaped, squeeze the "wings" of the conductor and/or insulation sections until they point straight up and form a "U" shape. Doing so isn't always neccesary, but it often makes crimping certain contacts much easier..
