this one is awesome! 1950s X-53 Super from Western Flyer made to specs by Murray.
This one is marked on the bottom bracket M28 x10 207734 as far as I can tell the following is accurate
28= model / X53 SUPER
x10= built by Murray for Western Flyer / Western Auto
The bike was a 1 owner until I found it. The story is that Tommy and Sharlene married and for whatever reason kept their bikes.
Tommy died, as we all will one day, and the bike was purchesed from Sharlene here in Cincinnati at the estate sale.
Folks, this one is super nice. nearly all parts present and original, save the headlight.
The paint is super, super nice for an original. The fenders have water slide decals of pin up girls that Tommy put on as a kid. And the chainguard also has decals (easily removed, but why?) that says Tommy x Sharlene. This thing is awesome.
The headlamp is missing as is almost always the case. The lamps can be had here on Ebay
The chrome on the guard and tank is very good and inside the tank is near perfect. The horn is untesed yet looks to be unused like new. The chrome on the fenders is not so good yet the fenders are nice enough to be reworked. The rear fender spear is present as is the reflector housing, the red reflector has a crack.
The seat is the original Troxel in very nice shape. The tires are newer Taiwan. The wheels are straight and true enough with all spokes present and tight. Bendix front and rear hubs. The wheels are Cad plated not chrome, and decent enought to shine up pretty good, not perfect.
There are no repairs or touch ups to this time capsule nor any significant rust except minor surface rust where some of the plating on the wheels, rack braces and fenders has failed.
I belive the handlebars are original, not certain about the grips.
The springer is as nice as you will ever find in original condition, with nearly no signs of age. This bike probably never spent the night outside and likely was never rained on, or left out in the sun to fade.
The pedals are original Western Flyers with little signs of use and the cad plating is super with little signs of age.
This is likely to be the best original unrestored X-53 Super around for some time.
This bike is not perfect, just super good original condition, and a tribute to Tommy and Sharlene that should be left in its present condition as it is too good to restore as it is.
I will consider reasonable offers, so make one.
This can be sent to Puerto Rico via USPS for just over 100.00
