Here is a beautiful, original oil painting on canvas by listed New Hampshire artist Albert Dakin Gihon (1866-1950) stemming from the early 1900's.
It measures approximately 29 inches by 23 1/2 inches and comes framed as shown. The wood frame is not original to the painting.
As shown in our photos this painting is in the impressionistic style depicting a european village scene, most probably France. It is signed in the lower right corner A. Gihon. This painting is artfully done in heavy impasto paint in lively colors of the countryside. It truly has a wonderful feel to it.
Known for his landscape paintings, Albert Dakin Gihon studied with Thomas Eakins and William Merritt Chase at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art. He went to Paris for further study and enrolled in the Ecole des Beaux-Art to study with Jean-leon Jerome. Gihon lived and was active in New Hampshire and died in France in 1950. This information is courtesy of the artist's great-grandson as per "Ask Art".
As can be seen in our photos, this painting has been professionally restored and the canvas has been fully re-lined on it's original stretcher bars. There are 2 small original stickers on the back with an original price of $600.00. The other sticker is most probably an inventory number. Please examine our photos carefully before bidding and e-mail me with any questions you may have.
