We have for your consideration in original, mint as made condition offered for the first time anywhere exclusively on eBay, an ORIGINAL HAND MADE EUGENE "BAATSOSLANII" JOE NAVAJO SAND PAINTING IN UNIQUELY DESIGNED FRAMED ORIGINAL TO THE ART WORK that measures 24 inches tall by 22 inches in wide. We have been the only owners of this picture purchased in person from a Utah gallery. The depth of color, and the three-dimensional illusion in this work is stunning. He has imbedded turquoise, "the Navajo diamond," to highlight a pot or fetish, fooling the eye even more thoroughly; it is like looking through a window. He has also published a book on sand painting of which I have a copy if interested. Very difficult to find them. (Anonymous information).Originally practiced only by medicine men, sand painting was used for religious and healing purposes only, and was usually done on the ground inside a hogan. When a sandpainting was finished, the medicine man would begin a sing, or chant, thereby transferring the sandpainting from the ground into the body of the patient, who would sit in the center of it. At the end of the ceremony, the painting or what was left of it was collected and scattered in the wind.Commercial sandpainting, such as that pioneered by Baatsoslanii's father, depicts a portion of a chant, a figure or two of the yeibichai or a rainbow god, but is done in a different sequence, so as not to violate the sacredness of the actual ceremony. As an apprentice, Baatsoslanii's art was mostly traditional, too. But he was compelled to paint the landscape, around him, and so did it in sand. This is an excellent quality art work. You will see in the images a photo of the artist holding this picture. It comes on the back of the painting. Do check my current and future listings for more offerings of fine estate gold and silver coins, jewelry and unique items. Please see all pictures for details. Guaranteed as described and pictured or money back if returned in same condition as sold.
