Restored and enlarged reproduction photo
Corner of Center Street and Main Street, Old Town Maine, 1910s
This great old photo shows electric trolley wires and tracks, the unpaved Main Street, Mutty's Pharmacy, a law office, a clothier, a shoe store, a mission, and much more. Although the town newspaper, The Oldtown Enterprise, is published next door, a boy in knickers is selling the latest Saturday Evening Post, probably for Mutty. The boy is standing next to the constable. The boy's buddy has a pocket watch. Also visible is a nice horse and carriage and several other townsfolk. You will see sharp detail, especially in the larger sizes (see "Size options" below). Old Town is northeast of Bangor and has about 8,000 residents today. This reproduction will be custom-made for you new, from a photo lab. It will not be a laser print, not a printed poster, not inkjet (except 16-inch by 20-inch and larger sizes). We have taken great care to preserve the sharpness and antique look while removing scratches, spots, and other damage that would make it less viewable. We have added three detail views here that will not appear on your photo (see "What are the detail views" below).
Why buy this photo: This photo would be a good conversation starter in a restaurant, waiting room, lobby, office, classroom, library, or museum in this area. Decorators place our sepia photos in old frames where they look antique (see "Tone options" below). This photo could also be a gift for a history buff or someone who has roots here. It can be resold in a store (see "Wholesale lots" below). Or place it in an album or scrapbook. Our photos can be used in school reports, presentations, and displays. This is a significantly improved version of the original image and must be licensed for use in a publication, video, or other product (see "Licenses" below).
What are the detail views? These are enlargements of small portions of the photo. They are intended to show you some of the details in the photo and to give you an idea of the image quality. They are not additional prints and they will not appear separately on your photo. The larger the photo you order, the more detail you will see.
Custom processing: We professionally enlarge your photo as soon as we receive your payment, usually within 48 hours. This means that you can choose an alternative size, finish, or tone (see below). We ship quickly, usually 2 or 3 days after we receive your payment. So, you must specify any substitutions when you pay.
Import duties, taxes and charges are not included in the item price or shipping charges. These charges are the buyer’s responsibility. Please check with your country’s customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to bidding/buying.
Size options: This image is not the same proportions as today’s standard frames. So, it will have white margins above and below the image in some sizes. The bid and/or Buy It Now prices shown are for one 5-inch by 7-inch (5x7) photo that can be framed (frame not included) or placed in an album or scrapbook. However, you can substitute the 8x10 or 8x12 size at no additional charge. Be sure to make your request when you pay. Or, to substitute an even larger size, you can purchase an additional item titled "Upsize your photo or art to..." (click "Upsize a photo or art" under "Store Categories" to the left) or ask us to add the cost to your invoice before you pay.

Finish options: Your photo will have a luster finish unless you request glossy when you pay. Glossy reflects glare from windows and bright lights but appears to be a bit sharper. Glossy also shows fingerprints more.
Luster finish (dull, less glare): Default finish
16x20 and larger have a satin finish which is similar to luster.
Glossy finish (shiny, more glare, looks sharper): Request when you pay
Not available in 16x20 nor larger sizes.
Tone options: Your photo will have a sepia tone as shown unless you request grayscale. Sepia is the color of antique photos today, caused by acid in the old paper. Many people prefer the warm sepia tones over cold black and white. Your sepia photo will be on acid-free paper, but it will look antique. Grayscale or "black and white" is the way modern prints are often made from silver negatives. Side-by-side examples are shown for comparison on our "About our photos" page in our eBay store.
Sepia (antique look): Default tone
Grayscale (black and white): Request when you pay
Border: This image is not the same proportions as today’s standard frames. So, your photo will have white margins outside the image in some sizes (see "Size options" above). Those can be matted for framing. The edges that do not have margins will have a minimum border. This means that there may be some white edges (less than 1/4 inch wide) outside the image so that you can display the maximum amount of the image in a mat or typical frame that hides the edges of the print.
Quality: We select the highest-quality original photos we can find and carefully restore and improve them. Old photos do not meet today’s high standards due to the limitations of the cameras, lenses, and film available in those days. But we improve them as much as we can while preserving an antique look. Then we process them using modern archival methods so they can be affordable and last for many years.
Packaging: We ship 5x7, 8x10, and 8x12 photos flat with a stiff board to prevent folding, in a sturdy envelope. Larger sizes are carefully rolled and shipped in a sturdy mailing tube.
Shipping time: Your photo can not be made until we receive your payment and your request for substitutions if any. However, we ship within 5 days after that. The time required by the postal services to deliver your photo depends on the shipping method you choose, customs, weather, and other factors beyond our control.
Shipping cost: This item is sold with packaging included. Domestic postage is also included. For destinations outside the U.S.A., buyer pays actual postage.
Discounts on additional purchases: Shipping and handling costs less per item when you buy more items that can ship together in the same package. We pass this on to buyers. We will subtract from your invoice before you pay, or refund in PayPal after you pay. Please note that some items can not be shipped together and thus will not qualify for this discount. For example, only photos and art prints that are 5x7 inches or smaller can ship with note cards, books, or DVDs. Here is how much discount you will get:
Items showing "Free shipping" (to US addresses only): $1.00 discount per item showing "Free shipping."
Items showing shipping and handling fees, to US addresses: We subtract all shipping and handling charges except the charges for your heaviest item in the package.
Items showing shipping and handling fees, to non-US addresses: Buyer pays actual postage for the package.
Buy-4-Get-1-Free offer: Buy four items from quaintcards that can ship together and get a fifth item that can ship with them free. Only photos and art prints that are 5x7 inches or smaller can ship with note cards. Your free item must be of equal or lesser value than the highest priced item among the 4 items you purchase. To get a free upsized photo or art print, you must purchase at least one upsize. Your free item can not be a 16x20 nor larger print. A lot counts as one item. Licenses, upsizes, and wholesale lots do not count toward the four purchased items for this offer. The purchased items and the free item must be able to ship together to the same address. Do not purchase the free item. Merely tell us which one you want and we will include it in your shipment. The same rules apply if you buy 8 items and select 2 free items or buy 12 and select 3 free.
Digital images: If you purchase this photo for use only on a website or in a digital presentation, you do not need to pay for shipping as long as we are able to send the image to you as an email attachment. You will receive a 72dpi version of the image that is not more than 1024 pixels wide. You can request it to be cropped. Images may not be printed for resale.
Copyright: This photo is a significantly cleaned up, restored, and improved version of the original. It is copyright protected and may not be reproduced without express permission.
Licenses: We own this cleaned-up and improved image and license it for publishing or for use in video productions or other products. For each image to be used, a license must be purchased via a separate eBay listing. See the menu to the left. Click on the appropriate license for more information.
