SPOOL/THREAD CABINET

This is a late 1800's or early 1900's wood spool/thread cabinet, made for a counter top display and can be used as a desk. The cabinet retains the original painted letters on the drawer fronts and emblem on the back. The piece has six (6) drawers all with original knobs/pulls. It measures at the base 32 1/2" wide x 23 1/2" deep. The lid is angled for a writing/working surface. The piece measures 13 3/4" tall in the front and 14 1/2" tall in the back. The lift lid is 17 1/2" deep and supported by a wood piece to hold in place while working within.  The leather top to the lift lid has been replaced and there are three or four wrinkles. The knobs appear to be brass and so do the collars around the knobs. Some of the knobs have dings/slightly bent and need polishing/refinishing. The top drawer on the right front use to read "White" but the letters are worn from use. The piece no longer has the wood dividers in the drawers for the rows of thread. A previous owner used this piece in his store and inserted hand made tin dividers in two of the drawers for bills/receipts. These could easily be removed if you so desire. The top right drawer was used as a money drawer and the previous owner has made a place for coins within (see photos). The drawers are not perfectly clean and show ink spills/spots/stains/dirt and could be refinished. They are now natural wood. The back decal has been scratched and part of the original paint is missing (see photo). There is a small gap in the bottom trim around the base located at the front left bottom corner. I believe the wood to be oak or ash (not sure) but it is a heavy piece and in nice condition for the age and use. This would be great in a vintage sewing room or with a group of period advertising.
