I acquired this yachtsman's private signal flag at a Maine estate auction about ten years ago. The piece of paper stapled to the hoist reads as follows: The Private Yachting Flag of Charles D. Alexander “Menikoe Haven” West Harpswell, Maine Circa 1920-1930 This flag is made of wool with a canvas hoist and measures 19” along the hoist and 31” from the hoist to the tips of the swallow tails. On the maker’s label are the words: “Sterling, All Wool Double Warp Bunting”. The wool has numerous small moth holes, but none is large enough to be distracting. The background of the flag is a deep navy blue and the hatchet is red. These colors are rich and vibrant. Please see the pics. I doubt this flag was ever used. Early wool yachting flags in good condition and a displayable size are becoming increasingly difficult to find. Thank you for looking. This flag is being sold without reserve and is priced to sell. If you choose to bid, good luck! Please note: while I have done my very best to describe this item accurately, this sale is final and no returns will be accepted. Therefore, if you have any questions, please be ask them BEFORE bidding. Also, note I will not ship outside the 48 contiguous states. |
