This book just flowed from page one to the end. It serves the purpose of providing an excellent primer on Islam as a faith highlighting it's beginnings, Allah's revelations to the Prophet Muhammed, and the violent aftermath upon the Prophet's death. As someone who was raised in a Muslim household in the US, it gave me great depth into the simple teachings as I had heard them, Sunday School style, from my mother. I found Aslan to be fair, with perhaps a discernible bias towards Shi'ism which can be understood, given his background. I don't think it marred the text at all though, and what his writing has that few others in non-fiction do, is a story teller's understanding of structure and craft. It was pure pleasure to read and it made me hungry for more of his work.
Awesome book! Must read.
