I am a long time part time pro. I normally shoot a Nikon D700. I went to an event this past weekend where I had made the decision to leave my camera at home and just be an observer. I got there and discovered that they were counting on me to be their photographer. I had given my Mother this camera for Mother's Day, and she had it in her purse. I took this camera and I photographed the event. It was outside in mostly open shade. The pictures turned out great. Although I had only handled the camera a short period of time the controls fell right to hand and it was easy to get the shots that I needed. I think it would be safe to label this as the camera that pro's take on vacation. I liked it quite a lot. It has a very good zoom range. The tonal range is VERY good for a sensor this size. Exposure was spot on. I did not use the flash at the event but while playing around with it before boxing it up for mom I noted that it did a very good job with flash exposure and that the light pattern was very even. With this camera you can set it to an auto mode and it will do it all, or if you want you can go all the way to full manual and control everything yourself. Nikon did a good job with this camera.Read full review
I have had a S9700 for a number of years, but it broke and it was cheaper to buy replacement than a repair. it is a compact camera and easy to carry in pocket, and fite easy into your hand . I can recommend it for its size and ease of use

Great quality pictures, for sure. I miss the 10 frames per second feature from my previous camera. I don't like the location of the flash. It's on the top of the camera, on the left side of the screen. When I hold a camera, my left index finger rests right where the flash ... pops up. It's just a matter of getting used to it but they still could've improved the location of it or made it built in, like most other digital camaras. These are my little nit picks but all in all, it's a great camera
Nikon knows what professionals want and has once again delivered beyond expectation! I wanted a smaller 'workhorse' for the times when my bigger SLR is just inconvenient and this unit is PERFECT! After researching several brands, models, features and options, this has proven to be the superior choice for all my applications. Plug & Play right out of the box. Inserting the battery and the card are the ONLY set-up. Simple AND easy navigation of FULL-FEATURED menus. Eye-Fi configured with on-board, multi-option editing of images AND videos. Macro is unbelievable! VR & image stabilization are awesome during one-hand operation. Mounting it on a mini-tripod frees my other hand to perform tasks during scene set-up and video recording; very handy during sessions with children/pets! :-) Beginners and veteran shutterbugs will be impressed with the value packed into this little 'pony' that can be added to their 'stable' for a very affordable price. AND, as 'Ralphie' would say, "It even has a compass in the stock!" :-) (satellite GPS location labeling)Read full review
I got this camera for my traveling. It is not very durable, but with the appropriate camera case it is perfect for traveling. The Zoom is amazing. The GPS option and the Digital compass are very useful and work great. The WiFi option or connecting to a smart device is good, but the app needs more work. The only few items that can be better is the speed of recording to the memory card (it takes a second). Manual focus will be great, but I may have not found this feature yet. Overall a great camera, great quality and price.
