       The Jicarilla Mts. have been mined on a small scale since the late 1800's. Several attempts had been made with large scale operations, but were unsuccesful due to the lack of water. The overburden is deep, up to 35 ft. in some areas, but gold can be found in the gravel layers of the overburden. Most geologists agree that most of the gold in the Jicarillas is still there. Claims in this area are difficult to come-by, as the entire area is under active claim.   

      Access is good. A two wheel drive vehicle will make it to the claim, but the for last mile I would recommend a 4x4. There is many flat areas for a camper or RV or to set up a tent. . The claim is about 75 minutes to Alamagordo which offers restaurants, lodging, entertainment and supplies.

     Please ask your questions before the auction ends, and understand what a placer mining claim is before bidding. You will be bidding for the mineral rights only, not the land itself. You can camp on it or stay in a wheeled vehicle, but you can not build permanent structures. A mining claim is real property. You can sell it, give it away, use it as loan collateral, or pass it on to your heirs. It is yours as long as you meet the annual filing requirements. Currently, by Sept 1 of each year, you must either pay the BLM $140 or if you have fewer than 10 claims you can file a small miners waiver and pay $10. This will be explained in detail to the winning bidder. The winning bidder will have no responsibility until Sept 1, 2013. I am taking care of this years maintenance fees, please allow an additional week in handling time so that I can take care of of it. Normal transfer time is 2-3 weeks.
