I bought this mic from eBay. The great Man who sold me this mic offered a very good price. I 'm very happy that I bought a top tube Neumann less than $ 1,500. I think about $2,000 is one of the best microphones available for the average user. The mic is completely satisfies my need for male vocals. Very good on acoustic guitar and flute. Other possibilities have not yet experienced. It has a thoroughbred tube sound, no bad cheap color. The mic needs to be careful to offset the room. The quality of preamp is very important for it. For commercial use it is desirable to have a good compressor, because the microphone has a very wide dynamic balance. I'm ready to evaluate the microphone as the best for $2000 - 5 balls with one drawback, because, it is very critical to the room and the acoustic design. I compared with models such as AT4047, AKG c414, Neumann M149, MXL v69, MXL2003, Neumann TLM103 etc .. Only M149 may seem a real competitor for the M147, but the price of M147 out of competition.Read full review
I've used the U87 and this has the same capture profile as a U87. If anything there is a little more vintage tone on account of the integrated tube. The microphone is super sensitive and one must really be a decent sound engineer to make good use of this microphone.

Neumann M147 is the cardioid version of the Neumann M149. This is a tubed condenser microphone. The output is much higher than most condenser microphones. Even those with tubed power supplies. That means you can have a long run from the microphone power supply to your console. I have a collection of Neumanns including an M149. This microphone is stupendous in the studio. I use it for vocals, violin and acoustic guitar. This microphone is better cut for the male voice than the female voice. For females I usually use are U87. This is part of a microphone collection that you can purchase that will sell in 10 years for more than you paid for it. It is an investment in your retirement! Microphone on right is M147. Left is TLM 103.

Very Cool Mic. Sounds great on Male Vox and acoustic guitar... Very low noise. Wonderful when paired with a very nice pre-amp. I used a Universal Audio LA-610 and the combination sounds beautiful.
