Up for Auction is this "7 Clan Mask" from Harrah's Cherokee Casino in North Carolina.
Made of Buckeye, Cherry, and Walnut Wood.
Measures Approx. 18" long, 4" Tall, and 1" Deep.
Wooden Board With 7 Carved Heads Symbolizing the 7 Clans of The Cherokee Society. Labeled under each head is the name of the clan it symbolizes.
7 Cherokee Clans:
Blue: The Blue Clan Were known for making a blue paint that keep children well.
Wildpotato: These people were known for gathering food, and being keepers of the land. The Wildpotato was a main staple of their diet, thus the name.
Deer: These people were known for being good hunters and fast runners.
Bird: These people were messengers. It was believed that birds were messengers between heaven and earth, and these people were responsible for caring for the birds. They were also known for having eagle feathers, because they were the only clan that was allowed to gather them.
Longhair: The people of this clan were known as peacemakers, and commonly Peace Cheifs came from this clan. They were also known for the odd ways they styled their hair, which was usually long.
Wolf: The largest Clan, these were considered the most important. They were known as being protectors, and he War Chief usually came from this clan.
Paint: These people were known for their medicine, which was commonly painted onto the patient.
The back of the board reads "D. Welch Cherokee nc."
The original tag is still tied to the back of the board. It reads
"Indian Arts and Crafts Board Genuine Handicrafts

U.S. Department of the Interior"
There is a red seal that states "Qualla Arts & Crafts Mutual, Inc. of the eastern band of the Cherokee Indians"
To the right the tags states:

This piece of art comes from a pet free and smoke free home. It is in great condition. I did find that one of the heads moves slightly if you try to wiggle it.
