Made in Mexico
Stratocaster
Somewhat of a Misnomer when you really look at the history
and the parts involved.
This is what collections are made of. This is perfect for
the collector and perfect for the player.
I purchased this guitar in 2005. I wanted to try the large
headstock Stratocaster. The tone for this guitar is 100% strat. The neck
position has that “loopy” strat tone that is hard to describe. The bridge
pickup is bright. Using positions 2 and 4 of the 5 position switch provides hum
relief as well as the off-set tone.
This guitar is used, but lightly. I would say I’ve played it
about 15 hours over the past 6 years. I have other guitars and wanted to keep
this one in NM condition.
The guitar has a 3 bolt neck. I didn’t “abuse” this guitar,
but Hendrix also played through many 3 bolt necks. All of the hardware on this
guitar is 100% STOCK FENDER!!! The pick-ups, the nut, the bridge, the saddles,
all stock. No modifications have been made. I don't wear belts, so it has no belt wear or buckle marks.
All of the manuals, warranty cards, Allen Wrenches are
included, as shown. What you see in the pictures is what you get, including the
retro-tweed case. The interior of the case is MINT. The exterior has fine brush marks, but is functionally perfect.Collectors will note the value of these guitars…MIM
Stratocasters are soft priced, just above Squires. No major artists endorsing
MIM strats. Eventually, people will seek out these as collectors, especially
post-NAFTA. Do you remember Fender Elite (1984) or the Lead guitars (1981).
Dismissed at the time, but cherished, (and valuable) now.
Corona, in Southern California, is less than
200 miles from Ensenada, Mexico. Now, for what you probably
don’t know about MIM Stratocasters: All of the American and Mexican made Fender
guitars start at the factory in Corona,
CA. The lumber for the bodies and
necks are shipped to the Corona
factory where they are cut, fretted and inspected. At this time it is
determined whether a guitar body will be painted a solid color or if the wood
is nice enough to have a natural or transparent finish. Extremely nice pieces
of wood are set aside for the Custom Shop. The Corona factory manufactures pickups, pick-guards,
bridges, metal chassis for amplifiers, neck plates, metal bridge covers and
metal pickup covers. The pick-guards are stamped out by a machine and the bevel
is added by hand with a router. It was very interesting to see the care and
attention that goes into the manufacturing of every single instrument!
USA Ash bodies are usually made out of 2
pieces of wood; USA Alder bodies are usually made out of 3 pieces of wood.
Blocks of Alder for Mexican guitars come laminated with an Alder veneer and the
top beveled direct from the lumber supplier.
(Most of the above information was re-printed from an actual tour of the
factory posted on-line. I wasn’t on that tour.)
The only flaw, if you can call it that, is discoloration to the plastic
pick-guard cover. It’s not a defect, I just decided to never pull the plastic
off. It doesn’t alter the playability of this guitar.
If you want the tone, this is the guitar for a fraction of the price. An actual 40
year old guitar has forty year old pick-ups. Magnets lose their magnetism over
time. If you want to hear the sound of a 40 + year old Stratocaster you can get
this one, or find a time machine.
I’ve taken many pictures but I did not disassemble this guitar. The only
thing I’ve changed are the strings. The Master Luthiers at Fender really nailed
it by using era specific hardware and pick-ups.
The serial number is MZ4107174.
This is available for local pick-up. I sent a guitar to Georgia and it
was $60.00, so I’m using that as the base for shipping.Paypal is preferred. No pay = No shipping. Payment due within 7 days of auction end or the item will be re-listed. International buyers are encouraged to seek a USA address for which I can ship the item. Although FedEx is listed in the shipping box, the actual carrier might vary. (either USPS or UPS). A tracking number will be provided. No ZERO bidders without prior contact please.
I love this guitar, but
I’ve got others and want to try other sounds. Please e-mail any questions. I
plan on shooting a short video to give an idea of the tonal capabilities of
this instrument.

(The Hendrix 3 bolt neck comment is probably inaccurate. If you also heard the Lou Reed/7 mystery strat stories, they are anachronistic.
