I recommend but with one caveat. It’s wire for 100V 50hz line voltage. A quality step-down transformer is needed (Nikko is a good brand). Travel adapters probably won’t last very long. This draws some current. The whetstone is a little small and the motor is loud but otherwise very functional. July 2021 update After using this for 6 months, I’m less willing to recommend this sharpener. While the stones are long lasting and remove metal fast, they’re expensive to replace. The machine is also just plain awkward to use. I find myself constantly repositioning because of clearance issues. Motor also lacks torque but I guess this is fine because the stones are efficient. The biggest issue is the water reservoir which barely works. I gave up on the drippy reservoir and use a spray bottle instead now. I tried some alternative power conversion methods and the best I came up with is still the expensive step-down transformer. A consumer power converter will just burnout.Read full review

Good quality and value. I'm using it to thin Japanese knife blades. Remember you'll need a step down adapter to use it in North American. I ordered (separately) a 500 watt unit.

Shinko 180e is poor quality product. Hole for water was not drilled out of box. Large clearance on the motor shaft. Absolutely not Japanese quality. Not recommended.

Exactly as I expected and works great. I did have to buy a speed converter from harbor freight to slow the rpms but its perfect for what i do.
