NEW Rare Apple Twentieth Anniversary Macintosh 20th Mac
Apple is the greatest and number one technology company in the world.
Own a piece of history!
Here up for auction is a true piece of Apple history, a Twentieth Anniversary Macintosh, affectionately referred to by it's owners as a "TAM". Apple made a very limited number of these machines, introduced in the spring of 1997 for $7,499, and included concierge delivery and setup. Apple only manufactured 12,000 TAMs, with a release run of 11,601. The remaining 399 were kept by Apple to be used as spare parts. Considered to be at the forefront of industrial design at it's time, the system was designed by the legendary Jonathan Ive as his first major project for Apple.
This particular unit also comes with framed copies of the original purchase receipt(s).
The TAM features a 250 MHz PowerPC 603e processor and 12.1" active matrix LCD powered by an ATI 3D Rage II video chipset with 2MB of VRAM capable of displaying up to 16bit color at 800x600 or 640x480 pixels. It had vertically mounted 4x SCSI CD-ROM and Apple floppy Superdrives, a 2GB ATA hard drive, a TV/FM tuner, an S-Video card, and a custom-made Bose sound system including 2 "Jewel" speakers and a subwoofer built into the externally located power supply "base unit".
The TAM comes with a special 75 key ADB keyboard which featured leather palm-rests and a trackpad instead of a mouse. The trackpad can be detached from the keyboard if desired, with a small leather insert found underneath the keyboard ready to fill the gap. When not required, the keyboard could slide under the TAM's head unit, leaving the trackpad exposed for continued access. The TAM also comes with a remote control (standard with the Apple TV/FM Tuner card), but also featured buttons on the front panel that could control sound levels, CD playback, brightness, contrast, and TV mode. The pre-installed operating system is a specialised version of Mac OS 7.6.1 (requiring the TAM's special CD for installation), but this can be upgraded as far as Mac OS 9.1. Expandability is offered via a tight-fitting 7 inch PCI slot and Apple Communication slot II for the addition of Ethernet. Later G3 upgrade options offered by Sonnet and NewerTechnologies made use of the TAM's Level II Cache slot, which allow the computer to reach speeds of up to 500 MHz.
The TAM comes in one large box, with four smaller boxes inside consisting of the accessory box, keyboard, system and subwoofer. The accessory box was opened only to inspect the condition of the batteries out of concern that the corrosion of them over time could have damaged other components. The batteries did in fact expand but did not leak, causing no damage to any of the other accessories. Those batteries have now been removed from the accessories box to prevent any potential damage to any other components. The accessories themselves are all new, otherwise untouched, including the thick users manual which is still shrink-wrapped, and a special TAM pen and pencil set which come in a special Apple embossed leather case. The system and subwoofer boxes remain sealed, and therefore are to be in perfect condition, but because testing was not performed this system is being sold in as-is condition. Servicing of TAM's is no longer available directly from Apple, but may be available thru an independent authorized service center.
It is not uncommon to see parts of a used TAM for sale on eBay or elsewhere,
rarely is a complete system with all original accessories and packaging, and a new sealed system is unheard of.
Don't miss out on a chance to own a genuine piece of Apple history!!!
One of these sold earlier this year here for almost $10,000 so if you are interested,
dont wait, buy it now !
This computer is brand new in the original box.
Everything is sealed as new except the accessories box which was only opened to inspect and remove the batteries. All of the accessories are still unopened and brand new exactly as they were. A framed copy of the original receipt from TekServe comes with the purchase.
