I believe the greatest books are those the author meant to write for themselves. Like j.k. Rowling & Stephenie Meyer, Suzanne Collins has created a world that fascinates us, & we have been lucky enough to share the story of Katniss Everdeen, the girl who was on fire. Now we can look forward to the Hunger Games movie coming in 2012.

The Mockingjay, for those of you who have not yet read the books, is a genetically altered mutation, or muttation (mutts for short) as it's known in the book. The original Jabberjays were created by 'The Capitol' as male homing birds who could memorize and repeat whole conversations, thus being able to spy on people in the Districts. It didn't work, the plan was abandoned and so were the birds, but they survived. Breeding with female Mockingbirds, they created a new breed call Mockingjays, able to repeat complex melodies but no longer able to mimic speech.

Book One begins with Katniss' worst nightmare coming true, as she hears her younger sister's name being read out as the chosen female tribute to represent District 12 in the annual Hunger Games - a competition to the death. She volunteers in her place, and along with her male tribute counterpart, Peeta Mellark, they embark on a bizarre journey to the 74th Hunger Games where they will fight for their lives. Someone gives Katniss' a token for good luck to wear at the Games. It is a gold pin with a Mockingjay holding an arrow inside a circle of gold. She can't guess at how important this symbol will be to her and all people one day.

The Mockingjay earrings measure approximately 3/4 of an inch (19 mm) and are made of a specially heated, lightweight polymer; then attached with 2 jump rings (so it will always hang correctly) to Sterling Silver ear wires.

Because the earrings are handcrafted by me using only the highest quality materials, they should be considered one of a kind. And while they don't mind getting caught in the rain once in a while, they should not be worn in the shower.

Each pair is carefully shipped in a 'silver arrow' tone gift tin, which is then placed inside a protective bubble mailer and guarantees their safe arrival to you.
