I would recommend Perma Blue for repairing of worn or lightly scratched areas; as for a complete re-blue not so much. I triple prepped a barrel then applied Perma Blue to the barrel in three sections. I repeated the process three times trying to achieve a deep dark rich blue/black finish, but only achieved about half of the desired finish and it was a bit shady, even after a light dusting with 0000 steel wool which did reduce the shadiness but not without lightening up the bluing finish.

It does what it supposed to do. The instructions are clear and easy to follow. The kit includes everything you need. My only issue is that it takes at least five to six coats to kind of get close to what you want. I never did reach exactly what I wanted. I’ve ordered another product, so I will try again. It really is a good product, I’m just very particular. Hope this helps.

Had rusted barrel. (With other parts rusted). Sanded with heavyweight cloth type sand paper, gradually went to fine. Then used product. About 5 coats (wiping) after each. Took my time — turned out like new. Have used this product on multiple weapons. After the coatings, completed with gun oil. Completed, looked like new.

I purchased a used 50 yr old T/C 50 cal flintlock rifle at a gun shop for $50. The gun was a kit from the early 70's I learned by searching the serial #. Any how the barrel was never blued and it wasn't used much. After cleaning up the barrel and using this kit, it looks terrific. This was my first time I ever blued a barrel. Good kit just follow the directions and you will get good results. I put about 6 thin coats on it, till I got the look I wanted. Would definitely recommend this kit. I only gave it 4 stars as you have to work fast with applying the bluing agent to get good results.

The kit works I suggest using alcohol between stages to purge the steel of chemicals I used the kit on my old rusty mosberg sand out the pits polish with steel wool to remove scratches from sand paper and the finish will be beautiful not as dark as hot blue but a cool looking finish dark finish with navy blue marbling on steel. Would recommend
