Marilyn Monroe must be one of the gyrations cultural icons of the 20th Century. Inegmatic, vulnerable, and naive, she was the classic "girl next door" created to mythological standards wrapped in immortality. If cameras made created humans to serve their best purposes, she was that creation! Capturing Marilyn on film was one thing, capturing her "in a film" was another. Her physical looks were, and still are, too well known! Only the Charlize Theron's need apply! But Marilyn is better captured when played inside out, and Michelle Williams does exactly that! I thought it was the film "performance of the year!" No one gets Marilyn right! But Michelle Williams created her not outside-in, but built Marilyn from the inside out! A remarkable performance! Unfortunately she was, Oscar-wise, up against another! Meryl Streep playing Margaret Thatcher! What a good film conversation and comparison this makes! (including the one between stage and film!, One great art form versus another!)) A film about film, and, arguably, the greatest film star ever! Enjoy it all!Read full review

Besides it being a great movie, you could see the actors were great. The male lead had such a look of awe in his eyes when looking at Marilyn. And Michelle Williams was fantastic. It's sad that her life wound up as it did. It also inspired me to re-watch Some Like it Hot.

Better than expected. Provides an interesting peek, inside the era and the woman. At points during this, I found myself thinking, .."there is no way she could be that dumb"....but when putting it in context, it really worked for her. She used a number of personality skills to make her way in a male dominated world. This really cracks with the 1950's feel. The frustration of the person playing Lawrence Olivier also comes through loud and clear. Simply stunning in video and sound on Blu Ray
A nice film, a bit voyeuristic, certainly very personal. Williams was excellent. The question is, do we really want to know these things... Even after her death I think Marilyn has some right to privacy. And I felt like I was intruding. Yes it was a good film, great costumes, great sets, well acted, but it felt an awful lot like tabloid gossip. Another beef is that anyone can watch a Monroe film and realize that there is, was, or has been no one like her, and although Williams is excellent, she isn't Marilyn. She's a fake, not because she isn't a good actress, simply because Ms Monroe was one in lifetime. I recently watched an old film staring the real MM, the film wasn't all that good, but she was captivating. She had something that isn't replicable. And that goes up against any MM impersonator. I'd question if even the great Meryl Streep could get it right. But don't let that detract you from this excellent film. It was truly entertaining, and a very personal film. Cheers and Blessings, Max Rainet. **If you found this information at all helpful, please take a moment to select the "yes" button below. This is a GREAT motion picture that far exceeded my expectations. I watched it BEFORE I purchased its DVD on e-Bay because I had anticipated anyone attempting to portray our still treasured Marilyn Monroe was doomed to failure; how wrong I was! Every aspect of quality, truthfullness with quiet compassion, and an entire group of known, exceptional actors, willing to give value to even small parts, have made a film I have now watched often, amazed by how balanced and moving its story, and how marvelously Michelle Williams "became" 'Marilyn' without 'imitating' her but offering us every aspect of her unique gifts despite unvarnished realities about her own self doubts. One rare gift of this film is the "Marilyn Theme" by a second composer that compels one to await listening even to those often tiresome "credits" because that Marilyn "theme" is so compelling (I also bought the CD for the music used in this[surprisingly?] exceptionally rewarding totality of this film)Read full review
