I bought this smartphone because I've been looking for the ultimate mobile computer replacement. I'm a bit of a road warrior and make regular use of email, voip, VPN, as well as many miscellaneous engineering, reading, and religious applications. The Atrix's powerful hardware runs everything without lag and it's solid design makes the handset a pleasure to work with. The display is beautiful, and easy to see in direct sunlight. The battery lasts me a full day with heavy usage, or over two days with light use. Added features like the fingerprint reader and various docks just push the coolness factor over-the-top. Motorola has currently locked the bootloader so you cannot load custom ROMs, but have promised to remove the lock later this year. When that happens, this is bound to become one of the most popular developer phones as well. Not recommended for somebody looking for a simple phone though; this thing is packed to the gills with options and features...may be overwhelming for some.Read full review
I bought the Motorola Atrix. this phone has its pros and cons. pro: 1) high speed when surfing the internet, 2) good photographs taken with a good camera, 3) excellent security with fingerprint reader, 4) light (weight in grams is very comfortable), 5) Dual-core 1 GHz processor speed & 4G, 6) HDMI video output, 7) Up to 48GB of memory, 8) has 16gb internal. Cons: 1) the screen is not very clear (it has low gloss), 2) the structure of the silhouette of the Atrix is very easy to get out of hand, 3) has good speakers for listening to music. I can give a punctuation of 7 points from 10 points.
I got this phone coming from and Inspire 4G, and it was a bit getting used to. The screen size is a tad smaller (coming from a 4.3), but the display i sharp. The main reason that I wanted this phone was for the dual core action, and it did not disappoint. The day to day use feels great and it honestly shows the difference in processing speed coming from the single cores. The finger print reader is great too. People say that its for security buff, but its not. Its for lazy people. No code, no pattern, just rub your phone to unlock it. ALL PHONES NEED THIS. The best thing about it is also the worst. The OTA update to gingerbread is great and all, but if you like to root your phone, then this will pretty much sink all hope of that. Boot loader relocked, and locked tight. The camera leaves a bit to be desired, but it works for what is needs to, and the front cam is again, workable. I use it for skype alot now thanks to the update, but be outdoors, or under a lamp to get any good shots out of the front cam. Battery life is average. If you have been using smart phones, you know if you get a day, your lucky. This one can give a solid half day, all the bells as whistles on. I mean, BT, wifi, GPS, the whole nine. Go green and you can get the day. Its a solid phone. I am glad I bought it. I still think HTC is the king though, but this will tide me over till the Holiday comes out. :)Read full review
Overall I really like this phone. Has gingerbread/2.3 without needing a custom rom, and Ice Cream Sandwitch/4.0 seems to be a working in progress by the modding community. I do have some issues: 1) The power on button is fairly hard to push, and I find myself frequently squeezing the volume buttons in order to push hard enough to turn on. Might be an issue unique to this unit. 2) The bootload is signed/locked. Fortunately some nice folks have figured out decent workarounds, but bricking is possible if you don't pay attention to the warnings. 3) Fingerprint reader is great, but occasionally stops working until the phone is rebooted. 4) HDMI mirroring is NOT possible, even with custom roms (from what I found anyway) without the multimedia dock. HDMI output is only good for displaying photos, recording playback, and other limited media using the supplied application. You can't use it as a bigger screen, play streaming videos like netflix, web surf, etc.Read full review
This phone is awesome but there are some slight changes I would like to see. The dualcore especially kicks in when gaming, i haven't experienced any lag during games. Only Motoblur UI seems to lag sometimes... and the browser should be smoother considering there is a dualcore cpu in there, if samsung could do it. Motorola can do it too! The battery life... well it has a really huge battery but it just has the same average battery performance as an android with a smaller battery. Finger print to unlock is fun at first but then you get bored of it lol. But it's a really nice feature to have, the vga front facing camera sucks at night though, but during the day it's pretty good. The screen is very responsive, I put launcher pro on my phone and it was smoother than Motoblur, no lag...only in the browser(sometimes). Overal it's a really nice phone to have and I really hope Motorola gets me the Ice Cream sandwich update!!Read full review
