Printing Year:

Title: Holy Scriptures

By: Joseph Smith Jr.

Year: 1867

The entire Holy Bible revised by Joseph Smith, the Mormon Prophet. The true first edition of this important Mormon volume was published in 1867 in Plano. This edition states 1867 but was actually printed a bit later and not in Plano. Other than that its the same book and text.

Binding: Faded black cloth; binding quite worn on boards and spine but in tact. Some markings inside front and back cover; and there are remnants of clear tape on some pages on the inside margin where someone attempted to keep loosening pages in tact. The majority of the text is quite clean throughout the book; the title page is loose but present. Title page has a couple of small chips; a very unique and important early Mormon volume. Many of the corrections Joseph Smith made in this book have since been placed in footnoting and in the Bible dictionary of current Mormon Bibles.

Shipping is $10.00 per book.

About Eborn Books:

We have been in business since 1989. We have a huge inventory of all kinds of books. We are largely a consignment store, with hundreds of vendors who price their own books and allow us to sell them. We take a cut and pay them for their book sales on a monthly basis. Let us know if you have something for us to sell. We also buy from those who want faster cash, but you can expect more money from consignment. We specialize in all subjects. If it’s a book it qualifies to be in our store! We concentrate on supplying used and out-of-print titles, but also carry some new titles. We also do a limited amount of publishing. [See the section below].

Eborn Books has three store locations and another 3 franchised locations. Our stores are conveniently located throughout the Wasatch Front, from Ogden to Provo, Utah. [Newgate Mall, Downtown Salt Lake City, Valley Fair Mall, Taylorsville, South Towne Mall, and Provo Towne Center.] See our addresses below.

Book Selection:

We sell books from all categories and have an unusually large selection of Mormon books. In fact, our stores combined offer the largest variety of used, out of print, and rare LDS Books in the World!

Eborn Books also published some books, mostly LDS, which are all available in all our stores. See the extensive list below of all our publications.

Outlet Store:

Our Taylorsville Store is half regular store (like the other 5) but half is our Outlet, where a huge assortment of books are being sold below three dollars per book!

We generally charge around $3.00 per item, but check each auction for the specifics. We do not generally offer returns, as we describe each item exactly the way you’ll get it. We ask you to know what you’re buying before you do so.

If you have questions just call or email.

Sales Tax:

We charge Utah sales tax in our stores and in our ebay auctions (for Utah residents only.) If you have a tax exempt status we will need the necessary information after the auction closes.

We always package everything very well with the appropriate amount of padding to suit the item you purchased.

All Auction items will be viewable at one of our stores. [Email or call to find out which store.]

Our Publications:

---- Andrus, Hyrum. Liberty’s Legacy. The New Testament Origins of American Liberty and Republicanism. Spiral Binding. This booklet, by Dr. Andrus and Chris Esseltine, discusses the basic belief deeply held by many Americans that the United States of America and its founders were influenced religiously and philosophically by God. This paper establishes through scholarly research the vital religio-spiritual elements responsible for the rise of Western Civilization, the development of liberty in modern times, and the origins and birth of American society and government. This paper is not the actual presentation the authors gave in 1996 in the home of Utah State Senator Howard Stephenson, but it is a supplemental companion to that work. It traces the line of liberty from the New Testament to modern times.

Our Mormon Publications:

---- Baker, LeGrand L. Joseph and Moroni.  The 7 Lessons Moroni Taught Joseph Smith. Hardbound with dust jacket. This is the touching story of the relationship between Joseph and Moroni and demonstrates the things Moroni had to teach him to prepare him to be a Prophet. Many know that Joseph went repeatedly to the hill to meet with Moroni each year, but few know the details of each visit. A delightful read.

---- Baker, LeGrand L. Murder of the Mormon Prophet. Political Prelude to the Death of Joseph Smith.  Hardbound with dust jacket. 850p. A colossal work which finally explains who really killed Joseph Smith, and why.  [After reading this book one should probably then read Elder Dallin H. Oaks book entitled Carthage Conspiracy as it continues the story.]The documentary of the same name is based on this book. The hardbound first edition was limited to 1,000 copies and sold out quickly. There are also three separate leather bound editions.

---- Baker, LeGrand L. (& Ricks, Stephen D.) Who Shall Ascend into the Hill of the Lord? The Psalms in the Old Testament & in the Book of Mormon. Thick hardcover volume which is limited to 500 copies and which sold out quickly. The softcover volume is still available. To many this book simply proves that Joseph Smith was a Prophet and that the Book of Mormon is true. An absolutely fascinating volume about the Temple.

---- Bradshaw, Jeffrey M. In God’s Image and Likeness. Ancient and Modern Perspectives on the Book of Moses. Huge Hardcover with dust jacket;  absolutely beautiful; the most comprehensive look at the Book of Moses ever published. The Hardbound is sold out and rare. There is a reprint in a four-volume softcover. There are also 10 copies in green leather signed by the author, publisher, and binder. These volumes are to-date the only Mormon book in full leather and in a full leather clam shell box!

---- Bradshaw, Jeffrey M. Temple Themes in the Book of Moses. Large size softcover; this book is available in a single volume and in two-volume set.

---- Bridgstock, Ben. The Joseph Smith Family. Hardbound with dust jacket. This book provides a convenient summary of the lives of the remarkable family of Joseph Smith Sr. and Lucy Mack Smith, parents of the Prophet Joseph Smith. It includes biographical information on Joseph Smith and all his siblings. Separate chapters provide sketches of the lives of Joseph Smith Sr., Lucy Mack Smith, Alvin Smith, Hyrum Smith, Sophronia Smith, Joseph Smith Jr., Emma Hale Smith (the Prophet's wife), Samuel Harrison Smith, Katherine Smith, William Smith, Don Carlos Smith, and Lucy Smith. Final chapters provide a narrative of the final days of Joseph and Hyrum, concluding observations by the author, and a compilation of comments on Joseph Smith by several prominent persons. A unique look at the “First Family of Mormonism.”

---- Call, Shauna L. & Hadyn. The Journal of Anson Call. Hardbound with dust jacket.

---- Craven, Rulon T. Turn on the Power! Hardbound with dust jacket.

---- Eborn, Bret A. Comprehensive Bibliography of Mormon Literature. This book was sold out and was later reprinted as Bret Eborn’s Guide to Mormon Books, 2002 and 2008.

---- Eborn, Bret A. Guide to Mormon Books. The 2002 edition was sold out quickly. The 2008 edition is a massively huge volume, 8 ½ x 11 inches; very heavy, and contains over 20,000 Mormon books and pamphlets, and their estimated values.

---- Galieti, Nick. Tree of Sacrament. Hardbound with dust jacket. A short and great read on the Sacrament with interesting insights probably never considered by many. Nick is also the producer of two documentaries financed by Eborn Books: Picturing Joseph and Murder of the Mormon Prophet.

---- Greenwood, Christopher. A Mighty Change. Going from Good to Better. Softbound. A very popular title and the author has done many book signings at Deseret Book.

---- Horne, Dennis B. Bruce R. McConkie. Highlights From His Life and Teachings. Hardbound with the dust jacket. The first edition was a 5,000 copy printing and sold out. Now there is a second edition, limited to only 1,000 copies, and it contains a new 60+page epilogue of additional information. [There is a limited red leather edition of 26 lettered copies, and a limited black leather edition.]

---- Horne, Dennis B. Called of God by Prophecy. Spiritual Experience, Doctrine, and Testimony from Church Leaders Reveal How God Chooses His Servants. Hardbound with dust jacket. A great mix of Mormon doctrine, history, and inspirational stories.

---- Horne, Dennis B. Determining Doctrine. Hardbound with dust jacket. Fantastic look at how we might determine what teachings in the Church can or cannot be truly classified as doctrine, rather than opinion. The first chapter alone is worth the read because it is on Mormon books. A must for those who love doctrine and book collecting. [There were ten copies in brown leather].

---- Jones, Gerald. Animals and the Church. Hardbound with dust jacket. The author wrote a booklet entitled "Animals and the Gospel" several years earlier. This is an enlarged expanded version of that booklet. It sets forth the position of the Mormon Church regarding animals; one of the only churches that believe animals have a soul. It shows that Church leaders have long held that we should be kind to animals, etc...... Includes statements on animals from Joseph Smith, Brigham Young, George Q. Cannon, Lorenzo Snow, Joseph F. Smith, David O. McKay, Joseph Fielding Smith, and others. It also covers the religious view of animals, in general, outside the Mormon view.

---- Mariano, Joshua. Visions of the Savior. Softbound.

---- The McConkie Five. This is a compilation of the five items Bruce R. McConkie said were as good as scripture. He called them “Uncanonized Scriptural Companions.” All five are included in this one volume. Most copies are softcover; only 20 were done in hardbound.

---- McLellin, William E. William E. McLellin’s Lost Manuscript. [edited by Mitchell K. Shaefer; Introduction by Steven C. Harper.] 8 ½ x 11 large size hardbound. This lost manuscript (currently owned by collector, Brent Ashworth) surfaced a few years ago and has proven to be a fascinating look at this early Mormon Apostle and his views and doctrines at a period in his life much later than his closer affiliation with the Church. He gives us a few details we didn't know, such as Joseph Smith attending his science class. First Edition strictly limited to only 1,000 copies.

---- Murdock, S. Reed. Joseph and Emma’s Julia. The Other Twin. Hardbound with dust jacket. The story of Julia Murdock, who was adopted by Joseph & Emma Smith. [There is also a limited leather edition of only 20 copies].

---- Pratt, Orson. Key to the Universe, Or, A New Theory of Its Mechanism. Hardbound; limited to 1,000 copies. This one sold out long ago.

---- Pratt, Orson. The Seer. (Reprint of the original done in 1853-54). One of the most controversial Mormon books ever published, it contains fun things like Pratt speculating on the incubation period for pregnant Gods. What kind of fluid flows in the veins of God. What kind of food they eat. It also contains an exhaustive defense of plural marriage, or polygamy. A fantastic read. Brigham Young didn’t care too much for Pratt’s teachings. There is a limited edition leather volume, a limited edition hardcover edition, and a softcover edition. The only one currently still available is the white softbound, which has actually been printed several times.

---- Roberts, B. H. Life of John Taylor. Hardbound with dust jacket. Reprint of the First Edition.

---- Roberts, Richard. The B. H. Roberts Family History. Large size 8 ½ x 11 Hardbound with dust jacket. Award-winning family history of one of Mormonism’s most prolific authors, written by a descendant. Dr. Roberts is a retired history professor at Weber State University. Only 500 copies were printed.

---- Schwendiman, Stephen. The Mendon Saints. Volume One (of Four). 2011. Hardbound. This book explains the vision in the sky witnessed by many people in this small New York town. Many in the town converted to Mormonism and moved to Kirtland, Ohio. This is where Brigham Young and Heber C. Kimball, and many others came from. The soon to be 4 volume set is an exhaustive look at the lives of all those who converted to Mormonism in this town.

---- Sealy, Shirley. George. A Story of Love and Divorce. Softbound novel.

---- Smith, Mark A. The Book of Mormon Summary. Hardbound with dust jacket. A great look at the Book of Mormon for a brand new convert to the Church, or someone less familiar with the book.

---- Smith, Mark A. Only Repentance. Hardbound with jacket. One of the most comprehensive books ever published on the subject of repentance.

---- Smith, Mark A. The Power of God. Hardbound with dust jacket.

---- Taylor, John. Mediation and Atonement. Softbound. Discontinued.

---- Taylor, John. The Works of John Taylor. Compiled by David Hammer. Softbound. Includes six of Taylor’s major books and pamphlets: 1. Mediation and Atonement; 2. The Government of God; 3. Items on the Priesthood; 4. Succession in the Priesthood; 5. On Marriage; 6. The Origin and Destiny of Women.

---- Tracy, Michael Shannon. Millions Shall Know Brother Joseph Again. The Joseph Smith Photograph. Large size hardcover; fascinating photographs and history about Joseph Smith’s death, fake burial, the secret burial, the digging up of his and Hyrum’s graves later on, the examination and measuring of their skulls, the reburial, physical descriptions of the Prophet, paintings of Joseph, alleged photographs, the phrenology measurements of his head, Joseph’s death mask, and finally one new photograph which seems to show promise in actually matching Joseph death mask and skull! It’s called the Scannel daguerreotype. This book was a huge story in the Utah news when it first appeared. The Reorganized Church, or Community of Christ, sued the author and publisher but lost. They were adamant that the photograph in question, which they actually own, is indeed Joseph Smith! The publisher did, however, agree not to publish the book again, so the 2,500 copies printed are all there will ever be. The documentary, Picturing Joseph, is based on this book and produced by Nick Galieti. This one was so argued over that Deseret Book decided not to carry the book, or the documentary. Those who see the photograph for the first time seem to think it can’t be Joseph (because they are used to fictional paintings), but the forensics seem to say that it actually might be the only known photograph of the Prophet. Whether you accept the photograph or not, the book is a fascinating look at the history of all the things mentioned above! [There is also a limited edition burgundy leather edition of 420 signed and numbered copies.]

---- Tullidge, Edward. Joseph the Prophet. This book was sold out long ago and comes in a limited edition black hardcover of 200 copies, and a limited edition white softcover of only 300 copies. This book was a photographic reprint of the 1878 first edition first published in New York.

---- Whitney, Orson F. Life of Heber C. Kimball. Hardbound with dust jacket. This is a re-type-set version of the First Edition first done in 1888, not the Bookcraft reprint with changes. This edition is also indexed,  a feature lacking in previous editions. There have been two printings of this edition.

---- Widtsoe, John A. Joseph Smith as Scientist. A Contribution to Mormon Philosophy. Hardbound reprint which was originally published in 1908.

---- Wilson, Lycurgus. David W. Patten, First Apostolic Martyr. This book was released in a limited edition black hardcover of 500 copies, and a limited edition white softcover of 500 copies. This title is also long-sold out!

---- Winder, Michael K. Counselors to the Prophets. Hardbound with dust jacket. 39 Chapters on the men who have served as Counselors in the First Presidency. 30 contributing authors; i.e. James P. Bell, M. Guy Bishop, Davis Bitton, Charles M. Brown, Scott R. Clawson, Richard O. Cowan, D. Michael Quinn, Kenneth Godfrey, Stanley B. Kimball, Bruce A. Van Orden, C. Kent Dunford, Keith Erekson, Galen L.Fletcher, Matthew C. Godfrey, Andrew F. Smith, Daniel R. Wells, Mary Jane Woodger, and others.... Many photographs. 1500 copies. The final three chapters are on Gordon B. Hinckley, Thomas S. Monson and James E. Faust; each of them had the opportunity to edit their respective chapters. [There have now been called 2 new counselors which are not included in the text.] There are also two limited leather editions, one in blue leather and one in green.

---- Winder, Michael K. Presiding Bishops. Hardbound with dust jacket. 13 biographies in one, of the 13 men who have served as the Presiding Bishop of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, from 1830 till now.
