I bought the film because of teh scope of this epic, and because it was one of the few truly international efforts in cinema. With a russian director,Japanese lead actor and a supporting cast from China,Mongolia and Korea i enjoyed this interpretation of Chingus Khans early years.Although it isn't historically accurate the breadth and scope of the film makes up for the few flaws it has with it's pace.Besides if you want to actually see what 20,000 mounted warriors look like in battle see this film. This may one of the last of these films to use that many live actors in the enormous battle scenes. There were a few film productions of different nationalities that made films to celebrate the 800 anniversary of Chingus Khans birth but i found this one the most entertaining and the one that made me feel as if enveloped in Mongolian culture. The fact that they speak mongolian helped. The battle scenes are huge and brutal. They have a sensual fell you can almost smell the blood and filth of ancient battles.SERIOUSLY.The director also made sure that none of the characters looked too pristine i.e. no bath tubs in the middle of mongolia and that tone also helped transport you to a grittier more visceral film.Even the swords looked worn and roughly finished.Tadanobu Asano does a great job as Chingus and i have enjoyed his talent in a variety of films from subtle quiet films to over the top horror films his versatilty always surprises me!Read full review
We Americans (descended from Europeans) view Ghangis Khan as a ruthless killer. He was one. This film portrays perhaps why he was. You see a man who has nothing but his love for a woman. That love keeps him alive and in return her alive. The future Khan must be ruthless to survive and for his people to survive. He had a vision for his people which he loved more than himself in the end. Watch this stunningly beautiful film and learn about and ancient and wonderful culture. This is a very GOOD film. Enjoy.
I have been hooked to Chinese martial arts movies since Crouching Tiger; I am still very much impressed by the quality of the production of this new era of Asian movies. With the stunning cinematography, great presented action sequences and a few supernatural happenings you can follow the raise of the Great Genghis Khan in this awesome presentation. The only reason why I do not rate this movie excellent is because it needs a bit more editing and seems too long on some details. I encourage you to own this movie, very well worthy.
Good movie Has subtitles

It was very good at times. No it is not about the motorcycle gang. The film was well researched, and lot action. It is very long film. I liked it, and it is one the better ones I have. English sub-titles. I did not check to see it it played in English. A picture is worth a million words. I would recommend it. A lot of blood. It is a war movie. GO FOR IT!
