I have been shooting pictures with Konica Minolta cameras for 15 years. Recently while cleaning my STSi, the shutter mechanism failed so I found myself in the market for a new camera body. Since all of my equipment is Konica Minolta, the camera needed to be from that manufacturer so the rest of my equipment was not obsolete. Unfortunately, the manufacturer stopped production on their line and sold to Sony, so their cameras are no longer available in most stores. But I love the way the pictures turn out and how user friendly all Konica Minolta cameras are, so I turned to ebay and have to say I am very impressed yet again. Not only was it easy to find the cameras I was looking for, but this is a great model. The Minolta Maxxum 5 has the best of both worlds- it can be operated fully automatic, like an SLR version of a point and shoot, or completely manually for those harder to take shots or artistic, professional images. This is a great camera, easy to operate, and anyone who is interested in film photography should keep this model in mind as a great, affordable option. The only downside is that you may have difficulty finding accessories if you do not already own Minolta products, but there is a lot of used equipment in camera stores and online and rumor has it that many of the Sony lenses are compatible with Konica Minolta and vice-versa.Read full review

Purchased this camera as an upgrade over my Minolta Maxxum 400si, it has about all the same features with the exception that I was looking for being shutter speed (1/4000) and frames per second (5), easy to use, takes great pics.
I collect Minolta film cameras [40+ to date ]. This is a very nice high quality camera. It has a built in flash, auto focus with a full auto mode. This model is very compact and light yet will accept all Maxxum lens combos which make it a great choice for a person on a budget. In my opinion this is one great camera.
I've taken some really good photos with the Minolta Maxxum 5 using a 50mm f/1.7 lens and some decent to pretty good photos (in good light) with the 70-300 Macro lens. The Maxxum 5 is a breeze to learn and use. First 35mm film camera I ever bought that wasn't a fixed lens P&S or a wanna be 35mm SLR with interchangeable lens capability (Minolta QTSi). If I had the time and resources to develop my own film, I'd be using this camera a whole lot more than I do.
