I installed a gate opener on our main gate when we moved in 3 years ago. I always wanted/needed to install an access keypad but just never got around to it. Our vehicles have gate opener remotes, but I wanted our guests to have easier access. I even had the mounting post taking up space in a corner of my garage. I finally decided it was about time to get this project off my 'honey-do list'. Sadly, I wish I had purchased this keypad 3 years ago, as the prices have risen a bit like everything else. Oh well.... As the instructions warn, be sure this remote will operate your gate opener at the distance you are planning to mount the keypad at. NOTHING would be worse to finish up and it doesn't work! This was also a great time to get familiar with programming the keypad and getting familiar with it. I entered my main gate code to ensure no hiccups. I mounted the post in concrete, standing at the recommended height of 45" above the ground. This is a universal height for people in cars, SUV's and most trucks to reach out and use the keypad. All good. The only issue I had was the mounting bracket on the post did not line up with the holes on the back of the keypad. So, I cut out a backing plate from some light gauge steel, just smaller than the back of the keypad. I used the keypad mounting hole going through the mounting bracket AND the steel backing plate at the top. This provided a good solid foundation at this attachment point. For the bottom hole, I had to put the keypad mounting screw through just the backing plate, which extends below the post mounting plate. I then put another bolt through a hole I drilled on the inside back of the keypad and through the backing plate a bit higher up. This setup worked out great! Solidly mounted with no issues. I've included a picture of the back of the keypad showing that mounting plate for clarity. (CAUTION - IF you end up having to do a similar mount, realize that the only obstacle that could interfere with that last bolt is the battery box inside the keypad. I had to ensure that I was just clearing it, just below it. This gave enough space for the bolt head to clear the battery box.) I used Stainless Steel bolts, washers and locknuts so there will be NO RUST issues and the keypad should look great for years. Note in the pictures that I also stuck a bright red reflector on each side of the keypad box. There should be no reason for anybody to hit it at night or not be able to pull up easily. Bingo! This unit is an exact replacement for original, which was in fact less than 3 years old. Being of simple but effective design, one should be able to expect a 10 year life span. Since the control board for the gate opener also expired this year, one could rationally suspect that built in obsolesence might be the case. This unit had very minimal use, as it was for visitors use while owner use was by vehicle remote. Due to short duration of life, the actual value to the purchaser quite possibly would not justify the cost. A circuit board replacement would most cerrainly have been a better value repair.

This keypad unit is good, rugged, and easy to program. The feature of wireless OR wired is nice. This isn't the first one I've installed for my clients. The lack of a built-in power input from the Mighty Mule's 12v supply is the only drawback to the unit. In wired mode, we have added a small circuit board inside the case with a 4.5v regulator, fed from the gate opener supply, to replace the batteries so the customer doesn't have to open it up to replace them every few months.

I just installed my keypad it works great. It shipped very quickly, was easy to program, and the price was reasonable. The only problem I had was failing to install the batteries. It will not work without the batteries. I am very satisfied with the way it works. Great product.
