I really think the Arcade unit is not suited to most people. You need the Hard Drive for So Many things. There are always Game Updates that are Mandatory for Online Play and a 256 Meg Card will fill up quick. Then if you want Map Packs, Demos, or to Play Original XBox Games you are gonna need the Hard Drive. The Arcade unit is really there to Sucker people in with the $199 price. Then you will end up buying a Hard Drive for another $100, then you will buy a High Def Cable for another $50, Then you might buy the Wireless adapter for another $100... It keeps going, I feel Microsoft is Trying to Nickel and Dime me to Death. Not to Mention XBox Live... All in all My XBox 360 has cost a TON more than my PS3 did. I bought both at Launch of each system. My 360: Totaling $900 Console $400 + Wireless $100 + XBox Live $50 (Times 4 so far = $200) Then I got the Red Ring of Death 3 Times so I bought this Arcade Unit as a Replacement $200. My PS3: Totaling $600 I bought the 60 Gig at Launch. Granted all the Prices have changed since then. So It comes down to Quality and the Price to Play each system Online that I give the XBox Only a 3 Star Rating. I love the Halo Series which is why we keep the 360 around. Since I cannot trust the Quality we Mainly buy all Multi-Platform Games for our PS3. Also because Online is Free on the PS3 and we can have a separate profile for all 4 Family Members. XBox Live REALLY needs a Gold Pack for Families. The Buddy List is not real helpful when more than one Family member is sharing that online persona... and I cannot see paying $50 per year per person for Live... We have 4 Gamers in our Family and we are NOT paying $200 a year just to play our games online... Now if you are buying an Arcade unit to Replace an Original XBox360 that is Having way too many problems like me then this is the way to go. You get a newer unit with a Warranty. It is Cheaper and You can just Snap your Old Hard Drive on to it and you are up and Running. This is why I call it the "Red Ring of Death Replacement Unit"Read full review
Shortly After Unboxing This Xbox 360 And Playing It For About 20 Minutes It Got The Infamous Red Ring Of Death Error Code 0102-E18. I Do Not Believe That It Was The Sellers Fault, Rather Microsoft For Not Manufacturing A Good Product. I Know That It Was Not The Seller As It Was Wrapped In The Original Plastic Bag And The Warranty Void Sticker Was Still Intact. But I Do Belive That This Is A Great Console, I Was Just Unfortunate To Get A Non Working Console. Microsoft Does Need To Work Harder With The Xbox 360 As I Have The New Xbox 360 Slim And Have Been Using It For A Year Now And Had Absolutely No Problems, So I Do Think That Microsoft It Making A Try To Improve There Xbox 360 From Breaking.
I was looking for a second Xbox to test out modifications on (like cutting up the case and water cooling it) before implementing them into a system that actually worked. I got it up and running and I"m now in the process of modding it. This system was easy to bring back to life with a simple re-flow and due to the water cooling mod I've done, it will be some time before it needs one again, if at all. The Xbox 360 had a pretty large game library with hundreds of games to choose from, if not thousands, with something for every one. Live Gold can get expensive but worth it with if you intend to run the free apps like Crackle and YouTube - though cheaper if you are constantly buying new Live games which most include a 3 month Gold card. Now I had to give an overall rating of two starts on this one for this reason. The item I received was a Core console, not the Arcade. The difference is in the case design, and with the motherboard. The Core system was the first system available, featuring the first Motherboard revision - the dreaded Xenon - which was prone to over heating, and the Red Ring Of Death that this one came with. What would then happen is that the solder joints would cool too quickly and break, causing many a headache and ultimately force them to either buy a new Xbox 360 or give up on Microsoft completely and buy a PlayStation 3. Versus the Core, the Arcade featured an onboard flash memory chip capable of storing minimal data like Gamer Profiles. The Xenon motherboard was then replaced by Zephyr model for more stability, and different models subsequent to combat piracy. The Arcade console also sported a new case design. Most never saw past the white drive cover that the Arcade console came with, but it was also equipped with a brand new motherboard cage that was designed to lower the standoffs under the X-Clamps to reduce flexing on the motherboard and thus reduce the likelihood of the solder joints cracking.Read full review
When I want to push a games graphical presentation to the limit I play it on a PC. The Xbox 360 may have the power of a reasonable gaming computer but they left out certain hardware features that I think are a must have for any console at this point. Where is the Wifi?! You are expected to buy a 75 dollar dongle that looks ridiculous poking out the back of your console. Comparable USB wireless dongles for PC cost 20 bucks, but of course you cant use one of those on your 360, even though it has A USB PORT! The Wii is supposed to be some kind of petite dinosaur when compared to the other consoles of the current generation, yet it has built in WIFI that works great. It is fully backwards compatible unlike its competitors and it has a SD card port in every console, unlike the 360 and the 20/40 GB iteration of the PS3. The Wii does not play DVDs, ITS CALLED HOMEBREW. Nintendo purposely left out dvd playback to save fifteen bucks a console and pass on the cheaper price to you. But yes, the Wii's puny 480p graphics do look quite pixelated on 32"+ screens when compared to 1080p on the 360, But high def graphics come at a cost to the users of the 360. Overheating and freezing in games are not fun to deal with. The 360 I own has no problem with overheating thanks to the myriad of third party fans I have installed but Microsoft says these fans void the warranty. But I have been getting crashes while playing every game I have tried because of the weak DVD-ROM inside the 360. All of these problems have drained consumer confidence in the Xbox brand resulting in the lowest price for a latest generation console ever. 140 bucks used is a sweet deal, but when you tack on the WiFI adapter and additional cooling fans then it is just Okay. THE NEXT GENERATION OF CONSOLES NEEDS TO IMPLEMENT SD CARDS AS THE MEM CARD AND ALSO FOR THE GAMES! I am so sick of 50+ dollar disks becoming scratched. hopefully at least one of the console companies will do this in their next console.Read full review
this is a very good gaming consol original design with the Xbox Arcade (12 by 3 by 10 inches, HWD). In fact, except that its profile is thinner because it lacks a hard drive, it looks almost exactly the same as any other white Xbox 360. (The Elite is the only Xbox with a black finish.) On the front panel you will find a large on/off button, an IR receiver, a loading tray for DVDs and games, and two slots for memory cards. On the back of the console you will find USB, HDMI, and Ethernet ports. The Arcade ships with a wireless controller and a 512MB memory card but not much else; you basically get just enough to get started. It does come, however, with five Xbox Live Arcade games (Pac-Man, UNO, Luxor 2, Boom Boom Rocket, and Feeding Frenzy) so you can play something immediately. Buzz up! on Yahoo! Internally, the Xbox Arcade is not much different from its predecessors. The Arcade features the same triple-core 3.2-GHz, 95nm IBM CPU as the other Xbox 360s—at least that's the official Microsoft line. It's a poorly kept secret that Microsoft has been updating its new Xboxes with a new 65nm chip, but the company's representatives will not comment on this. And I don't blame them. They have thousands of consoles on the market and don't want to get stuck with a glut of older SKUs. Sony introduced its smaller, more energy-efficient 65nm processor with the launch of the 40GB PS3. Both the PS3 and the 360 processors, new and old, blow the Nintendo Wii's 729-MHz chip right out of the water. Then again, if you buy a Wii you are probably looking for a different gaming experience.Read full review
