This book could have been better if there had been some color photos included. MSL is known for its wonderful photography which enhances its compelling content. However, this very thick, heavy book lacks readability. It contains a lot of great and worthwhile information but it is presented in a dull and boring way. I suppose it's handy as a reference guide, but with everyone nowadays having computers, tablets, smartphones, etc. this info is available at your fingertips. No need to go wading through such a voluminous book, especially when there are no color photos at all, save for the cover. I guess the publisher wanted to save money, but in the end, people might not buy it for that reason so their cost-saving is counterproductive. This book is only for those who want every Martha Stewart book ever written.Read full review

I purcahsed this book because it seemed like a good value for the amount of info it had contained. Of course, it's got the Martha Stewart name, and she's the queen bee of all things household. I love the amount of information that the book has in it- I used it the day I got it! While there are many household topics covered, there were a few things I was looking for that weren't in the book, but I guess it can't cover every single little thing. It would be nice if there were color photos, but I guess that doesn't matter too much- the info inside is worth more than color photos. I have several other household cleaning books, but this one covers more than the rest of them combined. It has details and is pretty explanitory when it comes to describing how to clean certain things, and I like the checklists provided for things to clean at certain times of the year (good reminders!) I'd recommend it to anyone, would be a great gift for a bridal shower or for a new home gift.Read full review
This is a wonderful resource for anything you need to do in your home. It is written for anyone no matter what stage of life you are in, whether it is just moving out and you've never taken care of a home; to you never quite knew how to do that in the first place! I was at first thrown off by how simple it is, but after spending some time reading it I've learned that this book is chock full of everyday practical tips, checklists, remodeling advice, and tips that only Martha can give! The latest tip that blew me away was in the linen closet, put the whole sheet set inside its matching pillow case to save space and keep organized! I often thumb through it just to read. As someone who has never had anyone teach me the ins and outs of caring for my home, I am grateful. My husband and our children are grateful as well. GET THE BOOK AND KEEP IT CLOSE TO YOU! YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT! When my sons all get engaged, their future wives will all be getting a copy from me as a gift, to start them off right!Read full review
What can I say! This book has everything you could possibly ever need to know about the art of homekeeping. It is a 744 page hardcover book that should be a must for everyone who maintains a home no matter if that home is a tiny apartment or large house. The book takes you through every room in your home and explains in great detail how to maintain that space from dusting to maintenance. EVERYTHING is discussed from plumbing to electricity to pest control to emergency preparedness, even living with your pet. There is even a chapter that talks about moving. The book is brilliantly outlined and illustrated. What makes this book really special for Martha Stewart lovers is the fact that each new chapter begins with Martha discussing that room and reminiscing about life in her different homes over the years. There are many photographs throughout the book showing rooms in her homes in Bedford, Skylands, Lily Pond Lane, East Hampton, and of course the beloved Turkey Hill. This book would make an excellent wedding gift for any new bride but would be welcomed for any gift giving occasion for any female or male. I do not know when I have seen a book that I have been as impressed with other than Martha Stewart's Baking Handbook. That book is also a jewel. The one thing that makes my Homekeeping Handbook really special to me is the fact that the one I purchased was autographed by Martha and included a photograph of her signing the book at a local department store. A real cherished book!!!Read full review
