Based on the hit memoir by John Grogan, MARLEY AND ME chronicles the relationship of John (Owen Wilson) and Jen (Jennifer Aniston) as they face the challenges of marriage and work to start a family. By their side is their beloved dog, Marley, who can chew through drywall, got kicked out of obedience school, and never met a leg he didn't like. The cute pup's antics come to signify the unexpected challenges that everyone faces in adulthood, and the film is ultimately a paean to unconditional love; others may see Marley as the "world's worst dog," but throughout it all, he proves to be the couple's most faithful friend. MARLEY AND ME plays like a modern day Norman Rockwell portrait with a little more bite, courtesy of the snark-friendly screenwriters and the title's wild mutt. The sets are sumptuous, with every shot lovingly lit to look like a Hallmark card. The winning lead performances help elevate the picture above its feel-good counterparts; Aniston is radiant and Wilson shows off sharp dramatic chops, giving some maturity to his loveable comedic persona. Alan Arkin gives a scene-stealing performance as Wilson's boss, and Kathleen Turner proves to be a great sport with her physically demanding cameo as Marley's obedience instructor. But in the end the picture belongs to the dogs, and for once that's a good thing. A film that keeps the audience cooing, cracking up, and crying, MARLEY AND ME is sure to become a family favorite.Read full review
A movie about a dog, Marley, and a young family. The dog is very loving but extremely destructive. Marley defies even the most determined dog trainers. The Owen Wilson plays a reporter who writes for a Florida newspaper. He wants to report the news as an immersion reporter covering relevant world news. Instead he is delegated a column of local community activities that incorporates his own commentary. He is unhappy and feels like a "Porsche on Blocks." His family grows and changes, Marley gets older but not less rambunctious, and finally Owen gets a shot at his dream job in another state with another newspaper. SPOILER ALERT*** A dog loving friend of mine once said after he buried his third labrador, "If I had known then, what I know now, I would have had a kid; they live longer." Well, Marley is now an old dog and is facing death. This is a very sad poignant moment and is extremely touching (and well acted.) This may, (or may not) be a good introduction for young kids about death and how families/people deal with it. As a dog movie, Marley & Me can stand toe to toe with Old Yeller and Lassie Come Home.Read full review

Owen Wilson also plays a great part, He delivers a great performance. The end of the movie was very good, I personally think it could have played out a little differently.

Marley & Me is just adorable. Newspaper Columnist John Grogan was inspired in real life to write this story and it was soon to be a movie. Marley's antics and nature helps to shape the couples lives for the next 15 years, even giving John plenty of material to write in his column. After the wedding, John and Jennifer move to Florida and begin to live their lives. John isn't ready to have children yet so thinks that Jennifer will be occupied by other thoughts, so he decides to get her a cute puppy hoping it will cheer her up and take her mind off of her on biological clock. Not unlike the film Turner & Hooch (Tom Hanks), this movie pulls hard at your heart strings. If you know what it means to have pets, then maybe you can relate. Even this couple, Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston go to the dogs with Marley (the 100 pound blonde Labrador retriever as their only child in tow. The couple embarks on an adventure of marriage, career, family, and the world's worst dog. Even though the ending is very sad, it seems to tie us all together and eventually bring new happiness and new memories we all can enjoy.
