This striking limited-edition "Mandan Passage" Native American Maquette Sculpture from Mill Creek Studios and artist Stephen Herrero sends the admirer back to the mysterious ways of the American Indians hundreds, even thousands of years ago. Limited to a run cast in crushed alabaster and resin and hand-painted in a warm array of timeless shades, "Mandan Passage" captures a proud Native American in a contemplative moment of reverence for nature's own beauty and power. Give it as a collectible gift, or express your own admiration for an intriguing culture and its traditions.

This is a very amazing sculpture by Artist Stephen Herrero. For those who love his work, this piece is truly a Masterpiece sculpture. There were only 250 made of this wonderful Native Sculpture. It is the real thing and not the smaller lightweight version.

The earrings, pipe and feathers are removeable and it comes with the Certificate of Authenticity and a special stamp and signature on the piece itself. Stephen Herrero created this in 2003.

From the proud look on his face and the deep expression in his eyes, this magnificent Native Statue is filled with wonderful detail. Stephen Herrero went all out with this beautiful sculpture, no longer available for resale. His gray hair shows the window of time, with wonderful eagle feathers in his graying hair. There is a quill work medicine wheel on the front of his leather sewn clothing. A Beaded feather hair tye also holds the feathers and his hair. Mandan Passage has two wrapped braids on either side of his face, two dangling earrings from his olden ears. Mandan Passage holds a peace pipe in his hand with dangling feathers.

In 1750, as many as 9000 Mandan Indians lived along the upper Missouri river in what is now North Dakota. Unlike their neighboring warlike tribes, the "People of the Pheasant" as the Mandan called themselves, lived in villages cultivating plots of corn, beans, pumpkins, squash and tobacco. By 1764, the first of a number of smallpox epidemics struck the tribe. By the time Lewis and Clark found them in 1804, their numbers had dwindled to some 1250. In 1837, the dreaded white man's disease relentlessly attacked them again and they were virtually wiped out, leaving only a handful to join a neighboring tribe. In the span of less than seventy-five years, the proud and gentle Mandan quietly passed into history.
