Good actors/characters, fun story line!
I do not know how faithful the script is to Kipling's story, but the rendition in the movie is a delight. I like Sean Connery and Michael Cain in most everything they have done. The plot is a fantastic yarn of the adventure of two scoundrels, who have decided that India has become to small for them, especially considering the restrictions under British Rule. Their solution? Leave and go conquer another territory, and become kings. I don't recommend this for children, too many thing adults may have to explain. Good movie, not "mint" condition
Advertised as mint. When arrived, sticky note on opened package explained that movie was opened to view and make sure it played. WTH? That is not mint. That used, opened and used. Movie is great, and good value. Just wish ad had been a little more accurate. Price point was good though.

A phenominal movie but a slightly flawed DVD presentation.
Based on the Rudyard Kipling story of the same name, The Man Who Would Be King tells the story of two adventurers in the 19th century who venture out of India into Kafiristan to become kings. Directed by John Huston and starring Sean Connery, Michael Caine, and Christopher Plummer, this has long been one of my favorite movies. It's a simple but engaging story told well. The video and audio quality were good. One thing that was strange was that the DVD had to be turned over mid-way through, even though the movie is not especially long. One thing that was disappointing was that one of the more memorable scenes from the end of the film appears to be missing and I can't find anything that explains why that was done. These two issues are relatively minor, but altogether make it ... Amazing movie, terrible DVD quality
I was very excited to receive The Man Who Would Be King in DVD format. It has always been one of the 20 all-time great movies, in my opinion. World-class acting from Michael Caine and Sean Connery. Four academy award nominations. Based on what is considered to be the greatest single short story ever written by Kippling. One of the legendary directors of Hollywood, John Huston. Truly a 5 star epic adventure movie. Then to receive this DVD...just re-released in 2010...(sigh) Whoever the fool was that didn't think it was an important enough movie to clean up, restore and bring 21st century technology to life in at LEAST a 500P resolution, well I think that idiot deserves the fate these two main characters ultimately face in the movie. The resolution of the movie is just as poor as my old VHS!!! Maybe 240P, I don't really know but very grainy and even jittery sometimes. 3. You put the DVD in and it just starts playing...no menu. You'll eventually see the menu but it's on the second side after the second half of the movie. 4. Part of an important ending scene is missing. Yep you heard right...missing. I won't tell you which one but you can look it up. That could be because it's original film has deteriorated too far to use. I swear while I was watching this I thought I had been sent a bootleg DVD from China or something. After doing some research just like you are probably doing if you're reading this, I discovered this is exactly how the studio put this out in 2010. I'm really glad to be able to buy and watch it again after so many years, but is this really the best they can do??? They should truly be ashamed. I'm surprised that John Huston's estate or Anjelica Huston or Sean Connery or Micheal Caine or ANYONE associated with this movie hasn't either raised hell or maybe offered to pay for a decent restoration of this classic. I would pay top dollar for a fully restored blu-ray edition, as I know thousands of others would. It was really nice to see these fine actors playing out a wonderful story again, I'm just very sad I had to read between the lines to do it.

I purchased the movie to share with my grandsons. It’s a classic story by Kipling. It was funny and sad and reflected a truism that absolute power corrupts absolutely.
