Mallrats is a great film despite what the critics said about it at the time. If you read my review of the Criterion Collection Chasing Amy DVD you'll know what I think of movie critics. Although the film bombed in the cinemas it turned out to be an underappreciated jem that found it's true audience through the medium of VHS, Laserdisc & later DVD. Mallrats 10th Anniversary Edition is easily the best version of the film you can get. The bonus features are excellent! There are easter eggs all over the place including the scene selection menus, the bonus features menus, the language menus & the main menus on both sides of the disc. The Directors cut version of the film on side B was fantastic including, as it does, the legendary original opening sequence and the many scenes & clips that were cut out because they referred to it. Afflecks face at the end is worth the price of the DVD alone! Mr Smith himself refers to Mallrats as View Askews access movie due to the number of fans who have told him it was the first of his movies they saw & they followed his career as a result of how much they liked it. Bottom line is, if you've never seen any of Kevin Smiths films this is a good place to start. If you already have a previous version of Mallrats on DVD, like the Collectors Edition for example, buy this one too! You won't be sorry I assure you. You get two versions of a great film for the price of one plus more bonus features & easter eggs than you can shake a dixie cup at! If you got this far, thanks for reading. :)Read full review
This excellent DVD brings improved video and most of the extras from the original release, it also adds some new features including a documentry and a Mallrats reunion. As if this wasn't enough, there is brand new version of the film that runs over 30 minutes longer! This version is such an improvement. Mallrats is the only Kevin Smith film that he did not edit, by going back and rediting the film, he allows some of the funniest scenes to go on longer and adds some all new scenes. Even the scenes with very little changed are improved because they are not as rushed. This DVD improves and already hilarious film. This DVD is a truly must own. When a couple of well-meaning slackers, T.S. (Jeremy London) and Brodie (Jason Lee), lose their girlfriends, they set about trying to reclaim their pride (and their ladies) in the most obvious of places--the mall. Once there, the pair push the limits of decency and mall etiquette, encountering an array of mall denizens, including Jay and Silent Bob from CLERKS and legendary comic book creator Stan Lee. A surprising number of misadventures ensue, bringing the boys the possibility of regaining their lady loves.

This is Kevin Smith's worst movie made yet but it is one of them that has a cult following which includes myself. The extended edition is the one to buy instead of the standard edition DVD. It includes the first cut of the film which in my opinion was the one that should have made the theaters. This is the DVD to buy.
